View Full Version : How come COTY Mike Brown never got more HC job offers?

Cavs fired him in 2010.
Lakers hired him in 2012 and the led them to a second round loss after the shortened reg season.
Following season, he got fired 5gms into the season and reports were that Kobe was behind it.
Had another HC stint with the Cavs after that in 2013, but was fired in May of 2014.
Since then, 6yr later, he's still never really been considered for another HC job.
Why has a COTY never really been given the opportunity to be a HC again?

I was actually just thinking about that same thing with Blatt and Ty Lue as well
COTY winners demoted to assistants. Unusual

People understand more fully now that he only won that award because of LeBron. Without LeBron.... not so good as HC. Best as a kind of defensive coordinator.

This. The same reason why Blatt, Lue can't get HC gigs despite Blatt making a finals and Lue winning a chip and making several finals: the league seems to think they had zero to do with it.

Word probably got around fast about Blatt. He's arrogant and feels like he deserves Pop level respect for what he's done overseas. And his inability to confront or manage NBA stars also probably makes people wary.
Lue is still respected. He would be the Lakers head coach right now if he would've accepted the Lakers offer - he turned it down because LAL wanted to pick one member of his staff.

Blatt has MS, he's retired already. Brown found his calling as an assistant job again, winning a title with the Warriors. Ty Lue is waiting for the proper job offer.
