We all know how important scoring is around here, so let's look at who lead their team in scoring for the most Finals with a list of: Team Scoring Leader in Finals

LeBron = 8x (2007, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018)
Jordan = 6x (1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, 1998)
Shaq = 5x (1995, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2004)
Kareem = 5x (1971, 1980, 1983, 1984, 1985)
Duncan = 4x (1999, 2003, 2005, 2013)
Hakeem 3x (1986, 1994, 1995)
Kobe = 3x (2008, 2009, 2010)
Durant = 3x (2012, 2017, 2018)
Curry = 3x (2015, 2016, 2019)

Top 9 above.

Those with less than three are listed below:

Erving = 2x (1977, 1980)
Bird = 2 (1984, 1987)
McHale = 2x (1985, 1986)
M. Malone = 2x (1981, 1983
Magic = 2x (1987, 1991,)
Worthy = 2x (1988, 1989)
Drexler = 2x (1990, 1992)
K. Malone = 2x (1997, 1998)
Wade = 2x (2006, 2011)
Dirk = 2x (2006, 2011)
Parker = 2x (2007, 2014)
Pierce = 2x (2008, 2010)

*note= Many players did not make list with only 1 occurrence, such as Reggie Miller, Cedric Maxwell, Kawhi Leonard, Jamaal Wilkes, etc.

Findings: Most all time greats achieve this only two times (Magic, Bird, Parker, Moses, Erving, McHale, Karl and Moses, etc. and since 1970, only nine players have ever lead their team in Finals scoring more than twice. Let that sink in: LeBron, Jordan, Shaq, Kareem, Duncan, Hakeem, Kobe, Curry, Durant.

And only four have more than four: LeBron, Jordan, Shaq, Kareem. And only one has more than 6:LeBron James, with 8.

Will this ever be done again?

LeBron nut huggers trying real hard to make their idol look good.

6 finals losses. That's LeBron's legacy.

The problem is that Lebron never had a carry-job against a good team - he always had good scoring and efficiency from his sidekick whenever he beat a top 5 SRS opponent... infact, EVERYONE needs good scoring and efficiency from their sidekick to beat good teams

except Jordan.

Only MJ beat good teams with poor scoring and efficiency from his sidekick... he beat 5 good teams with 16 on 40% from Pippen, including the 96' Finals (15 on 34% from Pippen), the 98' Finals, 98' ECF, 97' ECF, and 89' 1st Round (cavs were the #1 SRS team in the league and MJ beat them with a 6 seed and zero help... he averaged 40/6/8 on 52% to beat them)

Is this the cemented best playoff scorers of all time? The list looks very promising and its based on factual numbers

LeBron = 8x
Jordan = 6x
Shaq = 5x
Kareem = 5x
Duncan = 4x
Hakeem 3x
Kobe = 3x
Durant = 3x
Curry = 3x

These are the only players to lead their team in Finals scoring more than twice; only these nine players ever did it.

OP, you don't seem to have included older players.

I would guess Jerry West would be on this list.

MJ shoots 47.5% TS in a series (97' ECF)--3ball blames the sidekick for shooting 52.6% in the same series. :oldlol:

It was against the #1 defense (Miami)--and 3ball must know MJ's record against those type of defenses (but people aren't spamming his worst shooting series like 3ball and his acolytes do): http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?136345-Jordan-s-statistics-vs-1-ranked-defenses-in-playoffs

Yes, I think I went as far back as 1970. Otherwise if I went back to the end of time during we could include West, Heisohn, Petit, Russell, etc.

At any rate, I think the OP premise is statistically sound.

Best Finals Scorers ever since 1970
1. LeBron = 8x
2. Jordan = 6x
3. Shaq = 5x
4. Kareem = 5x
5. Duncan = 4x
6. Hakeem 3x
7. Kobe = 3x
8. Durant = 3x
9. Curry = 3x

Is it possible for anyone to get to 8 ever again? Kareem and Shaq got to 5, MJ got to 6. No one else has gotten to 5 besides those four.

8 is incredible. GOAT level. We will never see a GOAT level Finals scorer every again.

LeBron has as many as KD, Curry, and Kobe combined.
