I thought this was interesting. The correlation between All-Star appearances and All-NBA Team selections.

Here is a list of the players with the most All-Star appearances and least All-NBA selections.

-Chris Bosh = 11 All-Star appearances and 1 All-NBA selection (2nd Team)
-Ray Allen = 10 All-Star appearances and 2 All-NBA selections (2nd and 3rd Team)
-Robert Parish = 9 All-Star appearances and 2 All-NBA selections (2nd and 3rd Team)
-Lenny Wilkens = 9 All-Star appearances and 0 All-NBA selections (Lenny came in 2nd in MVP voting to Wilt Chamberlain in 1968 but didn't make any All-NBA teams that season … All-NBA 1st Team guards were Dave Bing and Oscar Robertson who finished 4th and 5th place in MVP voting. Hal Greer and Jerry West were the 2nd Team guards.)
-Bob Lanier = 8 All-Star appearances and 0 All-NBA selections (Bob came in 3rd place in MVP voting in 1974. But was behind the centers who came in 2nd and 1st in voting which was Bob McAdoo and Kareem. Another year, Bob finished 4th in MVP voting in 1977, once again behind centers Kareem and Bill Walton.)

And here, a list of players with the most All-NBA selections and least All-Star appearances.

Most players would usually have around an equal amount of All-Star selections and All-Star appearances. If not the same it’s usually more All-Star appearances than All-NBA selections. Well, these guys had more All-NBA selections than All-Star appearances.

-Kevin Johnson = 5 All-NBA selections but only 3 All-Star appearances (All-NBA 2nd Team in 1989 and 3rd Team in 1992 but no All-Star selection those seasons.)
-Ben Wallace = 5 All-NBA selections but only 4 All-Star appearances (All-NBA 3rd Team in 2002 but no All-Star selections. Also DPOY that season.)
-DeAndre Jordan = 3 All-NBA selections but only 1 All-Star appearance (All-NBA 1st Team in 2016 no All-Star selection. Also All-NBA 3rd Team in 2015, no All-Star selection)
-Derrick Coleman = 2 All-NBA selections but only 1 All-Star appearance (All-NBA 3rd Team in 1993. No All-Star selection.)
-Drazen Petrovic = 1 All-NBA selection and no All-Star appearances (1993 All-NBA 3rd Team selection)
-Rod Strickland = 1 All-NBA selection and no All-Star appearances (1998 All-NBA 2nd Team Selection)

Anther weird occurrence.

1973 MVP Dave Cowens didn’t make All-NBA 1st Team but was selected to the 2nd Team. Kareem was the All-NBA 1st center but came in 2nd in MVP voting.

Bosh making the All-Star team 11 times is a bit surprising, completely forgot he made the All-Star every year he was in Miami. A player of his caliber usually makes the All-Star team 5-6 times.

I think that is a function of him being in the right conference. How many would he have made in the West? Probably 5-6.

Any center isn't really that big a surprise, especially pre '89 when they only had two teams. Look at someone like Thurmond who made 7 all-star games, but was obviously never making an All-NBA Team over Wilt or Russell

The two that surprise me the most are Allen & McHale, who have 17 all-star selections, but only made 3 All-NBA Teams combined

The Kareem/Cowens thing happened once with Wilt/Russell. One won MVP but the other was first team. Forget the year. A product of players voting for MVP back then and the media all-NBA.

Disrespect. Bosh was awesome.

It's facts. Saying he would have 5 or 6 is generous considering the bigmen out west during that time period.

How so? Bosh would be an 11 time All-Star out West as well. Y'all do remember guys like Carlos Boozer, David Lee and David West were making teams back then. Garnett had moved to the East. Amar'e got hurt. A guy like Zach Randolph was only an All-Star twice. Seemed like him and Marc Gasol rotated years.

Andrew Bogut pre injury was probably 2nd best center in league behind Dwight - all NBA selection but no all star

Compare Bosh to other longtime WC star PF's (excluding Dirk, KG for obvious reasons).

Bosh 11x all-star (1x all-NBA)
Amare 6x all-star (5x all-NBA)
Gasol 6x all-star (4x all-NBA)
Aldridge 7x all-star (5x all-NBA)
Boozer 2x all-star (1x all-NBA)
Randolph 2x all-star (1x all-NBA)

All the WC players are consistent between all-star and all-NBA; Bosh somehow has 11 all-star selections while having as many all-NBA selections as Boozer and Randolph, 2x all-stars.

And kevin love didn't have the same luxury in his first few years at cleveland; he only got selected there twice in '17 & '18. Didn't even get selected in his championship season four years ago (2016). The previous three he had before those were ofc, during his wolf days but no postseason appearances at all.

Love is a 5x all-star while being all-NBA only twice. He has a small discrepancy as well. Compare him to Amare, Gasol, Aldridge who all made 6-7 all-star teams but 4-5 all-NBA.

It just means Bosh was consistent for 10+ seasons and the others for the most part got old, fell off or were injured. Gasol & Amare were the best out this bunch. But I'll take Bosh over everyone else.

Good call on Bogut, forgot all about him.
