I feel like almost every perimeter player benefited from the rule change in 2004. But there are exceptions like Ray Allen and Tmac. Anyone knows why?

Even in the 2003 season everyone remembers, Tmac was having back issues but it just got worse and worse after that. You could even see his shot release becoming more of a line drive shot. If Tmac at least stayed as healthy as he did in his best season I see no reason why he wouldn't have benefited from the changes.

You say Ray didn't benefit. His two highest PPG season were 06 and 07. That lines up with when the rules changed. His TS% was a career high 59% in 06 and 56% in 07, not numbers he hadn't reached before. Mostly it was a minor PPG bump.

T-Mac had scoliosis and was washed after 2005.

He wasn't "washed" until the 2008-09 season where he averaged 15 ppg on 39%

Between the 2004-05 season to the 2007-08 season, he was still playing like an all-star

His all around game was still good, but his scoring efficiency was absolute trash on the Rockets. He was always overrated as a scorer in general, though. Besides 2003 he was never efficient EVER. For how athletic and talented he was he always wanted to settle for the jumpshot instead of attack the rim throughout his career.

People like sleek "cool" looking scorers over efficient ones generally. Ray Allen generally beat him efficiency/impact wise on similar production, and didn't get half the hype. He's another guy that was a jumpshooter that couldn't really shoot all that well at least not marksmen level. But it looked cool when it did go in.

Tmac after 2004 was very clearly a different beast athletically. As I said even his jump-shot form changed. No way 2003 Tmac becomes 'worse' in the timeframe all the other perimeter guys got better. At 24? He shouldn't have even peaked by that point.
