I was surprised by the Rockets/China issue and then the nba fallout.

But why Houston?

Plus, any nba consequences for this or deteriorating relations between the U.S and China?

China already lashed out against the NBA by not airing NBA games and pulling merchandise earlier this year. I don't think these recent developments affect the NBA Moving forward. The recent deterioration is election related, trying to show strength to potential voters since the tariffs have not worked. .
Houston's General Manager Morey I believe posted comments supporting Hong Kong protesters which sparked the controversy.
