Lakers vs Magic scrimmage on NBATV now.

Interesting to me is how much time Dion Waiters and/or JR Smith will be getting once real games start up.

Mid 2Q, Lakers up 45-32.

Half: Lakers 60, Magic 47

Kuzma 6 of 7, 16 points off the bench.

Anthony Davis 9 points on just 3 FG attempts, and 10 rebounds already.

LeBron just 3 of 9, 8 points and 5 assists.

The Lakers centers barely missed: JaVale McGee 3 of 5, Dwight Howard 2 of 2 off the bench.

For the Magic:

The Magic shot 22% FG in the first half.

PG DJ Augustin 3 of 4, 12 points.
SG Evan Fournier 1 of 5
SF James Ennis 1 of 5
PF Aaron Gordon 2 of 8
C Nikola Vucevic 2 of 10

Michael Carter-Williams 8 points on 8 shots.

Assists: Lakers 13, Magic 5.

Threes: Lakers 5 of 9, Magic 2 of 22 (WTF.)

Magic lucky to be not down more.

Whoops, forgot to mention two huge stats that explain why this game is so close:

Magic took 50 shots in the first half, Lakers only took 35.

First half turnovers: Lakers 11, Magic 1.

Yeah. They beat the Lakers earlier this season without AD as well.

Just a different vibe when AD is on the court. All that rebounding, attention, and offense is missing.

Pretty interesting game considering it's just a scrimmage.

The real games do start this this week, so I think the intensity in these scrimmages will rise fast.

Meanwhile, Lakers only up 2, mid 3Q.

This team without AD is EXTREMELY beatable. Nowhere to really go for offense outside of isolations.

insidehoops
07-25-2020, 02:16 PM
Looking at the Magic bench, they have given real minutes today to Terrence Ross, Michael Carter-Williams, Gary Clark and Melvin Frazier. And then some minutes to Mo Bamba and Khem Birch.

Markelle Fultz hasn't played. He'd usually start.

07-25-2020, 02:17 PM
Lakers bench dancing and going wild when they were up double digits before AD went down.

Magic went up by one point and it still ooks like they give zero fvcks about this game.

Anthony Davis below 10 minutes played.

Why the Lakers are only up 4, mid 4th quarter:

Lakers 20 assists, 19 turnovers.
Magic 19 assists, 4 turnovers.

Well. This did wind up feeling like an exhibition game. But a good one. But the energy was up and down. But this a good sign for all us NBA fans, that they're clearly ready to play real games.

Season resumes in five days!

No he doesn't. A simple look at his 2009 season highlights would show their is a massive difference in explosiveness.

LeBron is bigger and stronger, not as athletic.

There's no "massive difference" anywhere. He's 50 lbs heavier than a lot of these guards and totally outrunning them. He had a play the other day where he out sprinted 2 or 3 guards from behind off a rebound for a fastbreak dunk. He did travel to start it, but that "explosiveness" was still there. From a standstill and behind, he was outrunning EVERYBODY. And took off from well outside the restricted circle for a slam.

You're being a nitpicking prick.

I didn't even watch this game and Dion Waiter needs to go.

I mean, why do people keep signing this dude?

You know what you're getting... and ultra chucker off the bench. Sometimes he gets hot and looks like more than he is, but that's about it.

He's basically a shittier version of Carmelo Anthony in terms of what he brings to a team. Sad.

Lol, Lebron's nowhere near as explosive as he was 10 years ago. We forget just how ridiculous he was athletically, he had a 40+ inch vert and was capable of dunking it from the FT line, now he struggles getting up on some basics dunks, and it's not like he's outrunning the fastest guys in the league, he's looked great on a few possessions in exhibition games, but he's not going to consistently outrun the faster guys like he used to. He's going to have his hands full against George & Kawhi. Remember when he was supposedly in peak condition to start the RS and looked like he had 0 energy going up against Kawhi? He's going to show some flashes in these games, but he can't do it like he used to.
