Based on that video, I think its clear that Trump has deep and sincere respect for Joe Biden (as we all do), and therefore Trump is pretending to be mentally retarded so it wont look as egregious when he obliterates Biden in their debates

Trumps in total reelection mode right now which means he is sticking to his script of non-culpability, as forced and ridiculous as it is at this point. He may be failing on purpose, he may be half-assing it, he may just not be that good at the traditional politics game.

Y'all know I ain't a trump supporter, but the interviewer was not professional. You can ask tough questions and challenge the President but not in the fashion he was doing. Frankly, I just feel Trump is a terrible communicator in expressing why he looks at a certain set of numbers and disregard others. I don't know if he is pretending, but he should be able to state his stats and their clearly relationship to other numbers.
