A bunch of alt accounts of notorious Bron Stan (maybe just one guy) got banned, but he had alts on deck with a new, even more queer schtick.

I have 3 theories:

1. There's an insane Bron fan that's been infesting this forum for years (most likely)

2. Bron is paying people to do propaganda for him online (I'd do it if I were him....but unlikely)

3. It's Jeff, and it's low effort trolling to juice pageviews for $$$ (WoOoOo)

We need a "sage" function like on some image boards, where you can comment without bumping a thread. It lets people make fun of a post without bumping it forever.

Appreciate the forum but some of the trolling is just weird.

Go to another board.

This board has revolved around LeBron James for at least 10 years. Prior to that, it was Kobe.

It's a combination of casual fans pretending to be students of the game who don't care about anything else other than the biggest star at the time... and... people with mental disorders.

This is how ISH has been since its inception and the owner of the site doesn't care, so it is what it is. People like you, assuming you're not a troll account, just leave and find other sites to talk hoops on.

This is troll and mental illness central. It's what makes it a shithole and also gives it its charm.

This is bullshit.

This board was Kobe central back in the day. Long before that "one guy" with 20 accounts even knew this site existed. It is ISH.

Every single basketball board on every single website would trend the exact same direction if the moderators were more tolerant of it. The difference here is the mods not caring because the owner doesn't care.

Do you have any idea how much traffic that LeBron & Kobe brought to the NBA?

Did you ever even ask yourself for one second why NBA ratings dropped by like 20-30% the very moment LeBron to the west coast and his typical game started at 10 or 10:30 eastern?

LeBron moves the needle. Look at the sports shows on ESPN, FS1, etc. They cover the topics that will generated eyeballs and LeBron basically has a daily segment on each of these shows. :lol

There is overkill. There is more in sports than LeBron, Jordan, Brady, and the Dallas Cowboys but those clearly are the things that move the needle and that is what people will cover.

This place has more diversity than social media. If you go to a Facebook sports page nearly every post is about LeBron or Jordan (Dallas during football season too). The thing is there are many topics people post about but only topics about certain subjects generate interest. There was a Miller and Richmond thread posted within days. The Richmond thread went 2 pages; the Miller thread 25 pages or so.

As someone noted, before LeBron it was Kobe. The question is, who will be next? LeBron's tank as a superstar has to be running low.

That's the weirdest thing since I've watched. Jordan left and left a void, but their were heir apparents. This time? No one really. The MVP candidates aside from Giannis are at the backend of their peak or prime. Giannis himself is heading into his peak, but he has the markenting appeal af Magaret Thatcher.

Roundball_Rock
08-06-2020, 11:28 AM
Luka, Zion, Giannis are the obvious candidates. Maybe someone else will emerge (Tatum?). Giannis is 25 and will be a 2x MVP and hasn't become that guy to date so that may never change. I think Giannis needs to move to a large market to have a shot. Zion has only played 22-23 games. We just don't know if he will prove to be a MVP-level player. He probably will but we have to see it. Luka has the performance level, he is new enough to generate fans but the NBA has never had a foreign player as "the guy" (another problem for Giannis) in the sense of being the marquee player marketed by the league, media, etc. like LeBron is now and Kobe before him.

Zion probably has the best shot--but he needs to back it up on the court.

:lol

Zion definitely has the best shot but I don't think he's a lock to be that guy that captivates attention like LeBron & Jordan & Kobe. Maybe he is, I don't know. The jury is still out.

And with all the respect in the world for his game and abilities when I say this... Kobe was only that guy because he played for LA under Jerry Buss. If he was rotting away in Orlando playing on losing teams, nobody would have given a shit about Kobe's career outside of true basketball fans.

Anyways, I think it's distinctly possible that we don't have that guy right now and I'm not 100% sure we have anyone in the pipeline. It's a tall order. I do remember hearing about some high school kid... just looked it up, name is Emoni Bates... but who knows...

Since 1984 when Jordan came into the league, who have we had? We had Jordan, Kobe & LeBron. And that's it. That's some rare shit. And as I said, Kobe was a beneficiary of circumstance... which really leaves LeBron & Jordan. We had Shaq too, but people don't root for big guys that way. Zion is like a hybrid, I don't know if what he's going to be able to do on the court is going to literally elevate teams to contender status for a decade+ and keep people vested in keeping up with his career because of the nature of his game.

We'll see.

Oh! I almost forgot... Steph Curry's popularity and new type of game to wow people was starting to become that guy for like a year... year and a half... but he(GSW) lost to LeBron(CLE) in 2016 & self cucked with Durant.

Yeah, market is a factor. Look at Duncan and Kobe. Very similar careers at the same time but one played in LA and the other a small market. Compare how they are remembered and how they were marketed.

It hurts the NBA that Giannis, Zion are in small markets. Dallas is large but it isn't NY/LA/CHI but still beats having him in NO or MIL from the NBA's perspective. LeBron showed you can overcome being in a small market but that is tough and he was a unique case since he was hyped before he even got to the NBA.

Anyways, I think it's distinctly possible that we don't have that guy right now and I'm not 100% sure we have anyone in the pipeline. It's a tall order. I do remember hearing about some high school kid, name starts with a J or something... but who knows...

Since 1984 when Jordan came into the league, who have we had? We had Jordan, Kobe & LeBron. And that's it.

Good points. One caveat: there is an incentive for the media to have that guy. It makes it easier for Skip & Shannon or First Take to know 80% of their show is LeBron, Jordan, Brady, and Dallas/Dak each day. :lol (The NFL doesn't have another Brady, but Mahomes is the obvious guy to take that spot.)

The guys you listed were the main guys but there was a lot of Shaq hype for a while. Then Penny took his thunder on his own team. Grant Hill got a ton too for a while. Injuries doomed those two.

The thing is Lebron and Kobe are/were such polarizing forces. No other players have come along in the last 20-25 years that have attracted such cult fanbases. You'd be lucky to have one guy like that at a time, we've had two. And whatever drives you to love or hate them, and there is no middle ground, we care. We care that they win, or if they lose.

I don't think theres anyone else playing today that engenders that kind of reaction, and its not like the league is short on superstars. But Kobe and Lebron are generational figures. Once we get past the trolling bullshit, the reality is we are/were lucky to have both. As sport fans we are better off for having them both grace our TV screens for 2 decades. Because it's not obvious to me right how who the heir apparent is. Yes all eyes are on Zion, but it remains to be seen where he ultimately lands. Giannis is obviously a dominant talent but not a needle mover in terms of mass market popularity. Neither is Harden or KD. Kawhi is about as interesting as week old oatmeal. Steph was popular a few years ago but at 32 and having missed a year, I'm not sure his best days arent already behind him, if not oncourt at least in terms of relevance and being a product that drives ratings and discussion. Remember how red hot he was in 2016

How much of that is the advent of the internet? If you were a Bird stan in the 80's or a Wilt stan in the 60's you could talk other basketball fans in your social circle and work. Maybe a couple others were fans of the same player but that was it. You could talk to fellow fans at team games or at sports bars but that is still a small number and all one-off conversations.

With the internet stans around the country can gather in common spaces (whether boards like ISH, FB groups, Reddit, etc.) and share the same info, memes, etc.

Yeah the Lebron hate has often been ridiculous. The Lebron hate threads are generally easy to spot. What is interesting is how many people insert their Lebron hatred into any thread possible even when it has nothing to do with Lebron.

Well Lebron sucks and would have got beat up in that era! He would have been swept and gone home crying after the whooping he would have taken! He is lucky he plays in this watered down soft NBA! Did I mention Lebron sucks?!"

The social media environment definitely plays into it( even though Kobe started before it, enough of his glory years existed in that space). But nobody since either came around has generated that kind of interest. Even if you took most of todays superstars back 30 years I don't find the majority of them especially compelling or charismatic in a way that would engender mass interest on the level of a Magic,Bird or MJ.

Curry could have been the post-LeBron guy if he was 5-6 years younger but he will be 32 next year and LeBron is still going strong. As long as LeBron is still a top 5, maybe even top 10 player, he will keep dominating the media but eventually that run will end.

It's possible the media shifts to focusing on 6-8 stars in a post-LeBron era versus focusing on one guy 80% of the time for current media coverage but that isn't how the NBA has been marketed. Magic/Bird took it to another level and then Jordan to yet another but it has always been this way. Mikan, Wilt/Russell, Kareem/Dr. J plus briefly Walton.

**** you mean? Giannis in Milwaukee has the second highest-selling jersey for the past two seasons, has been second in All-star voting 3 times now and first in the east twice. Had best sells launch of any nike sneaker in nikes signature shoe history, has the 4th highest endorsement earnings outside of lebron, curry and kd, despite being several years younger than them. His social media interactions are only beaten by bron and steph. Giannis is extremely marketable, the problem is he doesn't want to squeeze it for what its worth.

Curry went 32 in March but yeah if he was say, 25 in that breakout year back in 2016, you could pitch him for the next half decade. You can clearly see what they're trying to do with Zion but he still has a long way to go.

I have only been active for a few months but the other fan bases don't make thread after thread and posts tearing down other players. So you skipped over a bunch of valid discussion and automatically responded to that LeBron obsessed idiot?

You might want to avoid the forum for the next 3 years at the very least if you dont like the LeBron threads

It wont get any better after he wins his 4th, 5th then 6th ring

Negative.

The majority of losers on this forum will still be salivating Lebrons dick sauce well after retirement. This place is strange indeed.
