View Full Version : It took only 2 years for LeBron to cultivate a #1 seed in the west

Meanwhile players like like Dame struggle Their entire career for that elusive 8th seed. Why does LeBron make it look so easy?

Because Lebron has the clout to make things happen. He has left teams high and dry and in shambles, so teams are terrified of not getting him the help around him. Imagine if Lebron gets pissed at the Lakers and leaves them. Knicks have won a playoff game more recently then them. It might be another 10 years before airb&npac comes up for air.

Interesting take. Cavs won 0 titles ever before Bron. Shambles though. LeResurrect took 5 years worth of Kobe shambles and turned them to title contenders

2013- missed playoffs ( rookie year)
2014- 4th seed
2015- 6th seed
2016- 5th seed
2017- 8th seed
2018 -3rd seed
2019 -3rd seed
2020- (currently 8th)

How does this equate to a career long struggle for the 8th seed? Furthermore why are you comparing the results of Lebron James to Damian Lillard when there's like....60-70 spots between them on the all-time list? And the important question of all.....why am I answering this seriously?

One healthy run in his 17th season is all it took to secure 1st seed

With rather ease too

No one was even close taking our slot since week 1 in October

Business as usual for the Gray 1

So blessed

He left them in shambles buddy. How many winning seasons has the teams he left had after he left? How about bringing about a winning culture that they continue to succeed even after he bounces? It's not exactly an insult to Lebron, don't you pride yourself on him being the entire reason any team ever succeeds?

Weren't you a Celtics fan? How does it feel rooting for the Lakers nowadays? :lol

Where was Phil Jackson's winning culture before Michael Jordan? We could do this all day :lol

Bulls still succeeded after MJ got mafia'd. I guess you'll argue that's because Scottie Pippen was the best player in the NBA at the time. And we will go around in circles. Rinse and Repeat.

Phil Jackson won 5 chips after MJ

Also won two chips as a player.

Phil taught MJ how to win.

Lebron had no proven mentors. He achieved everything on his own. Through his own hustle, brains, and gigantic elephant trunk.

Earned not given.

In Albany. :lol

The Jordan argument is dumb: Jordan was on his first NBA team so there is no NBA coaching history of him before Jordan. We did see him in the NBA after Jordan (twice), though, and as a pro coach before Jordan. The common theme before, with, and after MJ is a ton of chips...

LeBron has the second most Finals MVPs ever. That ball dominance looks rather successful to me. You might need to brush up on your basketball history.

3x scoring champ from the 50's. Led the league in WS 5 straight years, and only played 8 seasons. Had his career cut short due to knee injury though. His last good year before injury and retirement was right around time Bill Russell took over the league. Had to look him up myself. Pretty interesting guy. Played professional baseball before switching to basketball. Coached Wilt. The guy literally died on the court at age 49 playing a pickup game. I guess because of his short career and the fact he died at such a relatively young age most people have probably never heard of him.

LeBron leads the league in RPM. That is real adjusted plus minus. Anthony Davis meanwhile ranks #21 this year. Player Efficiency is only an efficiency stat whereas RPM includes efficiency and your overall impact. All of that is to say, RPM is the superior measure.

I have Davis higher than most ATM but it would depend how he plays. If AD is efficient and still scoring-rebounding with high frequency, I think he will break the 30-40 range. Team achievements are tricky. He would also need at least 5 more quality years before I can give a legit answer. Hopefully he can stay healthy!

Well, they measure different things. RPM is a slightly better stat in terms of a predictor. But PER still is a good indicator of who is doing what while on the court. Lebron James is basically the only facilitator the Lakers have. Of course his numbers are going to be better on something like RPM on that team. In any case, those are career numbers I posted. Doesn't change the fact that Lebron teaming up with Davis is basically like Jordan teaming up with prime Shaq.

RPM is a cumulative & adjusted stat. I use PER too. You are right that its not bad. Its just not very good compared to RPM, which also goes beyond a stat sheet. LeBron had Davis beat handily and years before playing on the Lakers. Your Jordan/Shaq comparison is not a very good one. No offense. Davis never had the impact of Shaq, Jordan or LeBron. He has a nice PER, but LeBron basically dwarfs him in all other cumulative metrics.

What he also didn't mention is PER penalizes ballhandlers because of increased turnovers. That is why the top of the list is all big men plus a SG outside of LeBron.
