View Full Version : Is LeBron too passive sometimes?

Sometimes I feel like he is his own worst enemy in terms of not attacking teams head-on right off the bat and playing down to their level. This is why he’ll always be criticized for not being a “Killer” like MJ, Kobe(R.I.P.), Bird, etc, and have people constantly questioning his mental toughness. When you think about it, if he decides that he’s going to play bully-ball all game, there are only a few handful of players who are strong and smart enough to offset that strategy, but LeBron tends to read and react to the defense before he makes the necessary adjustments. I hope he comes out with guns blazing tomorrow, but I doubt it. Expect a typical low energy, low scoring feel-out game one by LeBron and the Lakers will follow suit and make it close game.

We'll see. Until now playoffs LeBron never disappointed (when not injured)

Lebron can't be aggressive because he isn't a skilled jumpshooter and avoids contested jumpers.. so he can't just shoot whenever he wants
This is statistical fact - 94% of his jumpers are uncontested and his peers take 3-6 times the contested jumpers that hee does, so they can "take over" and "get hot" much more often
Well, can't he choose to be more passive, especially when he already has a potential teammate in ad by his side?

feel-out game
Do you consider that too passive if it's all part of the strategy? He seems passive sometimes while he reads the situations and tries to figure shit out. How to be effective with the team. Whether that is a good or bad thing, I dunno.

YES Op, Very Timid. He is only 1,000 ahead of MJ. As we know, LBJ's greatness is held to an even higher standard. He should be 2,000 ahead of MJ. The GOAT standard

Playoff Lebron sucked many times:
Lebron's worst series
2007 ECSF vs NJN... 24.7 on 42.3%
2007 Finals vs SAS... 22.0 on 35.6%
2008 ECSF vs BOS.... 26.7 on 35.5%
2010 ECSF vs BOS.... 26.8 on 44.7% (quit)
2011 Finals vs DAL... 17.8 on 47.8%
2013 ECSF vs CHI..... 23.6 on 43.8%
2013 Finals vs SAS... 25.3 on 44.7% (net negative for series)
2014 ECF vs IND...... 22.8 on 55.7%
2015 ECSF vs CHI.... 26.2 on 39.9%
2016 RD 1 vs DET..... 22.8 on 48.7%
2016 ECSF vs ATL.... 24.3 on 50.7%
MJ only has 2 series that compare - 96' Finals (27.3 on 41.7%) and 97' ECF (30.2 on 38.7%)..
(the 97' ecf shouldn't count because he averaged 30, and I omitted all lebron series where he averaged 30+ regardless of efficiency)

It would look ugly if all we compared were assists by MJ and Lebron.

theres a reason why hes 3/9 and could only win with superteams. Coz as long as he get his stats, the gullible nerds are there to defend him.

Gotta step it up! I know the whole roster sucks, but this is where LeBron needs be more aggressive looking for his instead of force-feeding those unreliable shooters.

when you have Lady Gaga hacking the telephone, I'm not very sure just what exactly does passive mean.

I think AD is the passive one and Lebron is active usually. But they can always change the roles ofc.

Lebron's the one running the offense, they produce some terrible offense in crunch time situations, unless it's a play out of the timeout that Kidd/Vogel draws up. Absolutely pathetic offense in the last 4 minutes of the Portland game, the one basket AD scored late was in transition, and they didn't even look for him the rest of the game. Lebron kicks it out to Caruso, who shoots a 3 off the dribble, instead of Danny Green, who was wide open for a corner 3 with a minute left down 5, terrible decision on his part.
Something's really wrong with this team. Davis hasn't been in the closer role all year, so we don't really expect him to close, it's Lebron's job to dictate the offense and close the deal on this team.

Definitely. He goes way over the board with trying to get scrubs involved even though it should be clear to him that after 5 bricks the guy just isn't going to get going.

He's never been fully confident in his shot so when hes not on and feeling it He can be hesitant to shoot the mid or three at times. Other times its just him sitting back trying to get others involved. Overall though id say hes been a pretty aggressive scorer. I expect him to come out in attack mode next game.
