I loved that job," Bird says. "It was outdoors, you were around your friends. Picking up brush, cleaning up. I felt like I was really accomplishing something. How many times are you riding around your town and you say to yourself, Why don't they fix that? Why don't they clean the streets up? And here I had the chance to do that. I had the chance to make my community look better."

If magic was only drafted by the jazz instead of the lakers, for sure bird would have more than three rings.

Larry bird is the only nba legend that Jordan never beat in the playoffs.

Bird isn't the GOAT but he's right up there with Russell, Jordan, & Kobe as it pertains to their psychotic level of competitiveness.

Just to be clear this was right after he dropped out of Indiana, before he went to Indiana State.

Tontoz beat me to it.

It wasn’t some heroic grassroots mentality he had. That was a learning experience for him; up to that point, he was immensely gifted and incredibly lazy. He was so traumatized by life in Bloomington that he ran away after a few weeks. Those same people in French Lick thought he was tantamount to worthless bum, like his drunken father, for quitting IU and taking that public works job. Worst of all, his mother was beyond disappointed with him for throwing away his potential so he could drink beers with his crew. Eventually he figured it out, which is why he ended up at Indiana State.

What a great man. If only black people would be more like Larry Legend, and take pride in having a job instead of BLM (Break, Loot, Murder)
