View Full Version : What will be the next big invention in technology?

Let's say, after smart phones. Or are smart phones the end all be all?
I was actually thinking that hologram AI would be cool, but it's totally unnecessary. I can actually envision a chip that gets implanted into us becoming our new way of communication. Kind of like a bluetooth headset, but internally. No more devices to hold in your hand. Instant communication by voice recognition or thought recognition.

Bitcoin, fully autonomous electric cars, genuine AI, or plugging your brain into a computer... these are the big four on the near horizon...
Not sure which will have the most profound impact, but I suspect it will be a genuine artificial intelligence... how could it not be? When an AI begins to truly be intelligent and can modify its own source code and spread throughout anywhere on the Internet and possibly beyond, how could that not be it? Unless you die an early death, you will live to see it.

actual self aware AI is no where in the near future...I think a lot of people assume we are on the cusp of that, but no one alive today will see it.
We don't even know what makes humans self aware...we aren't sure if some insects are self aware...yet some think we are on the cusp of writing code that can recognize itself...we aren't
IMO the next big thing to transform our lives will be the full integration of self driving automobiles...that one actually is close

'Cellular aging' is encoded into our DNA as it is necessary for evolution...in order for a species to evolve, it must constantly die and be reborn. That is why we age and die...
Eventually we will be able to edit our DNA and remove the aging process...live for thousands of years
At one point I was hopeful that we would see the day...but not anymore :(...maybe our grandkids

Graphene batteries. Cellphones and cars charged in seconds and last months on a single charge. Will solve all energy problems.

sounds exactly like what a self aware AI robot would say.

now shows a great deal of interest in quick charging/long lasting batteries....

Time travel. I believe it already exists.
I believe UFOs and aliens are just us in the future. The pale skinny humanoids are us due to the destruction of the environment. UFOs are just time travelling vessels. That's why they travel so quickly

Hmm I've said this theory before. Glad someone else believes this too. Ancient civilizations have reported seeing the same exact things we are reporting to see today. Coincidence? I think not. It's definitely more plausible to be witnessing us from the future rather than witnessing a completely different humanoid species.
The question now is, how far into the future are we visiting ourselves from? If we've evolved to look like little gray aliens, we are probably talking about 100,000 years in the future at the very least.

is it me or did old movies glamorize "the future"? they really thought it would be completely different.
like 1980s sci fi movies would be like "in the year 2020, there will be flying cars" and they think we would all dress like they did in tron.

Well, barely anything that you saw "futuristic" in those kinds of movies came true as far as I'm concerned so that's disappointing if you think of it but rn, at least there's still some advancement happening compared to the past.
Being realistic, I'll just cite some examples; the world today already has powerful smartphones, fiber optic internet, 4g/5g cellular networks, electric cars, social media, modern video game consoles and what more; many of them weren't even existent back in the day.
If you're a baby boomer or a gen x, you'll still be seeing a lot of difference between those years when it comes to talking about technology but ofc, there's nothing spectacular about them if you expected more than just that.
They didn't have much of these things in the past so needless to say, it was more simple back then but also the world was less populated and thus, less polluted at the same time unlike today. So in other words, there's always a compromise as time goes on.

Well soon maybe actually. I remember hearing there's a new chip in production that'll be surgically placed somewhere in the body (probably the ear) so that you can control your phone.
So technically, we're on the road to becoming cyborgs.

Someday the UFO is going to become the IFO - the identified flying object, and a new one is going to sell for the price of a Tesla Model S. We'll all be laughing about how this mysterious technology ended up in every backyard.
