It won't happen, but the country seems divided as never before. Is it the fact that many are unemployed and have nothing better to do than be on social media.

I do see that a lot of American youth are carrying around a kind of trauma or despair and is already on top of other economic issues that might put them further behind their parent's generation at the same age.

Anyway the west coast and the north east is 1 America, and the rest is another.

It'd be a futile exercise, new divisions would inevitably occur within these two new nations as well. Look at how the primaries played out 4 years ago, Hillary vs Bernie caused a major rift within the Democratic party, with many Bernie supporters eventually not voting for Hillary or even voting for Trump; and on the opposite side of the spectrum Trump supporters vs the Never Trumpers caused a similar dissent in the Republican party as well. While I definitely agree it probably wouldn't get to the level it currently is today, you'd see two sides eventually forming within these Democrat & Republican nations

I remember there was an episode of South Park where atheists claimed how peaceful the world would be without religion. They flash forward hundreds of years into a future where there's no religion, only to find several groups of atheists at war with each other over which kind of atheism is best. Maybe it's just human nature to end up divided, hence why you've seen nearly every nation on earth end up in civil war

Thats how it used to be when people had less info and just voted whatever way their community traditionally did. And certainly geography still plays a big part.

I think thats changing with social media. People feel more connected to likeminded citizens and vote along those lines regardless of where they live. There are “historically red” areas even in TX that have moved toward blue, and there are gay black muslim individuals in various cities who are MAGA.

Generally it feels like we’re seeing people with pride in themselves (whether its traditional masculine pride or even gay pride or anything in between) lean one way, and people who low key hate themselves and need an outlet for anguish, lean another way (orange man bad). I think the divide is becoming less geographic and more psychological.

Look at the arrests that are being made in Portland and Seattle. These are people in their 30's and 40's as well. Some are teachers, lawyers, you name it. This isn't just some teenage "angst". This is an ideology, and I'm truly sorry you cannot see it this way. They have been rioting in Portland for over 100 days. A make-believe autonomous zone was created in Seattle and people were murdered in it within days.
