View Full Version : Blazers made WCF last year. Now they're a 1st round exit in 2020. What changed?

Portland even added Melo, Nurkic, and Whiteside to Dame and McCollum.

But...

LeBron shows up in the Wild Wild West and now they're just another Eastern Conference 1st round team?

Injuries, they didn't have Nurkic(their 3rd best player) all season prior to the bubble, Melo was a mid-season signing. They had to go all out in the bubble games just to make it to the post-season while the Lakers coasted through it, Lillard gets injured in Game 2 and then has a knee injury in Game 4. Remember, they got swept by the no KD Warriors last year, so it's not like they were a legitimate title contender, they just lucked out by playing weak ass teams in the first 2 rounds with the Rockets & Warriors on the other side of the bracket.

Well, you can't expect an 8th seed to dominate over the top seed in most occasions, do you?

No not usually, but seedings arent everything are they?

Blazers history
2019: made WCF
2020: added Melo, Nurkic, Whiteside win 1 playoff game (fail in 1st round)

It seems to me that LBJ makes many teams look weak/easy to beat when they are not. He even did that to the seemingly unbeatable by every other team, 2016 Warriors. He made them look very beatable when no one else could.

The LeBron effect?

The reasons is an injury to their 4th option, who mind you is STILL playing in the bubble. So he isn't out of the playoffs, just a little rusty. That's the reason? :lol Seems very easy to make the WCF in the Wild Wild West.

I think it's somethig else. Maybe your Lakers LeBron avy can give you a hint slick.

Second question, Ohhhh so the Blazers did play Nurkic in the 2019 playoffs? Link me to one of his games please :lol :lol

Was Portland the 8th seed last year?

Maybe...just maybe...that's what changed.

:confusedshrug:

It certainly wasn't Lebron's presence that changed, because he was in the western conference last year. And he watching Portland play in the WCF on tv.

So injuries excuses are only valid when it happens to Lebron teams? :lol ok

But the truth is they ran out of gas after playing elimination games for the last few weeks. It was well known that if they lost any of them they were likely not gonna make the play-in game.
And of course Lebron and AD dominated them. They have no answers for either of them.

Blazers had an easy road last season. Thunder then the Nuggets? That's a auto WCF bid for any team.

What injury? Dame in an unwinnable game 4?

Plus they ADDED Nurkic, Melo, and Whiteside for 2020 vs 2019 playoffs?

Lakers were clearly better after game 1. Their size just wore em down. LeBron wore em out

They aren't a typical 8 seed. Had Nurk and Collins played the whole year they probably win 10 more games. Also Dame missed 9 games this year where they went 2-7 without him. Last year he played 80 games. The first game Melo played with Lillard back on the court they were already in a 5-12 hole to start the year.

Also this is a completely different Blazers team than last year. Kanter, Hood, Aminu, Curry and Harkless were their 4-8 scorers and their 3rd leading scorer was Nurkic who as mentioned missed this whole season until the bubble. So basically the Blazers played this season without 6 of their 8 leading scorers.

They did have Nurkic when they were one of the top seeds last season & he was obviously out for the Playoffs, they had the luck of playing on the other side of the bracket so they played OKC in the 1st round and barely won against Denver in the 2nd. Kanter, Robin Hood & Seth Curry were huge reasons why they pulled that off, none of them are on the roster in these Playoffs..

You're a ****ing idiot either way. This Portland roster is a lot different from last year's. No Kanter, no Hood, no Aminu, no Harkless, no Seth Curry, no Collins. That's over half of their rotation.. Not the same team that made the WCF. Oh, and CJ's playing with a broken bone in his back and Dame's injured as well. What you expect?

How did 2016 warriors look unbeatable? They were down 3-1 to the thunder and almost lost in six if it wasn’t for Klay making 11 threes that game. Lebron fans are the biggest liars on this board. Giving him credit for something that wasn’t even impressive. Y’all act like the 2016 warriors were the 2001 lakers. 2001 sixers actually did something incredible. 2016 cabs did nothing impressive

What happened to blazers in 2018 playoffs? They played Anthony Davis without LeBron right? I imagine that was an easy series for blazers.

A team that beat PRIME Durant, Westbrook, Ibaka, Adams, when down 3-1?

How did a 73-win record setting, 4 olympian, 3 all NBA, 50/40/90 on 30 ppg Unanimous MVP led team look unbeatable? Funny guy.

Injuries? Dame was hurt when game 4 was out of reach. Unless you're talking about 6 ppg Zach Collins? But the Blazers also got major upgrades in 2020 with the additions of Nurkic, Carmello, and Whiteside.
