just when I was starting to think that things might finally start settling down in Portland... someone dumps a big can of gas on the fire

there was a huge Trump rally in Portland today (I drove past it when I was doing some errands this afternoon, it looked like at least a couple thousand people were there) and apparently this guy was part of that rally.

Antifa were told to stand down, at least for a while, because it started to show in polls that people were beginning to respond poorly to the violence. But when you open up a can, it can be tough to get the lid back on again.

Just seen a Levi's commercial, message was that you should vote based on feelings towards minorities. Literally had a guy voting for AOC in the commercial, after looking at a black mother and daughter with look of concern. Coorporate America doing their best to affect the election.

Well this wont do anything to help the dems in the polls (unless the right-wingers retaliate in some horribly violent way... praying that does not happen).

That Levis commercial sounds very inspiring... I am going to take their advice and vote against the candidate who wrote the racist 1994 crime bill and is running along side a tough-on-crime DA who ruthlessly jailed scores of black men for minor offenses like marijuana.

Watching some of the videos from the fighting leading up to that shooting, man is it tough to see the hatred on both sides.

Scrolling through places on the internet is not much better. Left wingers say that the right have infiltrated local government and police, while right wingers are saying that the left has infiltrated local governments and student faculty from start to finish. Both sides strongly believes that the other side is messing with the coming election through voter fraud.

People have come too far away from each other, I can't see what's going to happen for them to come together again.

For example, to me, this is a real life display on what it feels like arguing with TheMan about something on here, ending with a change subject instead of responding to the question.

People have come too far away from each other, I can't see what's going to happen for them to come together again.

The bubbles have drifted so far apart, and they have become so opaque, that its almost like there are 3 versions of reality right now (the far left reality, the far right reality, and the real reality).

Lots of my left-wing friends in town legitimately think that the protests have been 100% peaceful and the only violence is from racist police, and my right-wing relatives in other states think that Portland is a warzone with bands of marauding Antifa smashing every pane of glass in the city. The reason these groups think these things is because thats what their media is telling them - the left-wing media does not report on anything that paints the protests in a bad light, and the right-wing is only concerned with painting the protests in a bad light.

I have no idea how to bring the people trapped in these fake realities back into the real one

"Dude you really gotta get on your phone and do some research" is such a sad line to be said at that moment.

The shooting will be interesting by the way. They found a guy alone and called him out as a Trumper, then he sprayed mace and was instantly gunned down.

The shooter was close to drawing on a Trump truck earlier as well https://twitter.com/mfoxhunter/status/1299968743351738370

I had someone use almost that exact phrase on me the other day when I asked what they meant by "abolish the police".

What I found out is that apparently if you "do the work" and read enough twitter posts, you will eventually figure out that "abolish" doesnt mean "abolish" as the word is typically used, it actually means "reform" (or something)

Since I am a douchebag with a big mouth, naturally I had to point out that the word "abolish" has a long established meaning, and I questioned whether white Antifa rioters should be redefining words that have historical meanings rooted in slavery (the movement to end slavery was called the "Abolishionist" movement after all)... lets just say I am still waiting for a response on that one :oldlol:

If they want to prevent further violence, they need to arrest that shooter today, and they need to throw the book at him like they did with the Kenosha kid... let the courts sort it out later.

Come on guys, you know it's the RIGHT-wing white supremacists who have been setting fires, assaulting and shooting people for the last 80+ days.

About the same as arguing with these nutjobs over COVID lockdowns and forced school/business closures

It aint worth it bro.

By all means, if they come to you... put em down quick and put em down hard. But going out there wont change/stop anything. It’s just putting yourself in jeopardy.

I mean I feel bad for any normal people in Portland impacted by this nonsense. But at the same time...Portland’s modus operandi is no secret and hasn't been for some time. This is what the city is. People who chose to make their home there, kinda already made their bed. Im not sure why an organization like Patriot Prayer is out trying to rescue a city like Portland in the first place.

Patriot Prayer is trying to rescue the city because they live in the region. Despite the high number of crazy soyboys and ambiguously gendered woman-like creatures, Portland is a beautiful city and overall a very nice place to live.

Or perhaps its more accurate to say Portland was a beautiful city that was a very nice place to live... the covid lockdowns and the riots ruined just about everything this city had going for it, other than access to nature.

Like many others, I am currently evaluating my escape options from this rapidly intensifying dumpsterfire of a city. Idaho and Montana seem promising

I visited Portland in 2015. Other than large homeless camps here and there, it seemed alright.

I'm glad I got to visit a lot of major cities across the US (especially NYC) before they turned into dumpster fires.

Thats definitely fair enough, and I can understand those living in Oregon wanting to assist in preserving its decency.

But I definitely dont think anyone should put themselves at risk by traveling a great distance to get involved in this. Just isnt worth the investment and the risk to one’s own life and livelyhood.

Watching the video again, it looks like the guy got straight up executed. The shooter had turned and aimed his gun before the victim started spraying mace.
