View Full Version : Odd question... mattress firmness/softness? Has your preference changed over time?

I've found that as I've gotten older that the softer the mattress, the more likely I am to wake up with back pain in the morning.

When I was in my 20s I slept better on a softer surface, for sure. Now, it seems to have flipped.

I recently bought a purple 3 and that thing slept GREAT for the first month, but after that, I started waking up to my back feeling ****ed up every single day, which is usually the opposite of what people experience... they struggle with it at first and then after they break it in, they sleep like a baby. And every time I went to bed I would feel perfectly fine, no back pain, no nothing... just waking up in the morning I felt ****ed up...

Well... I returned it and have chosen something with way less give, and I sleep so much better. We will see if it lasts.

IDK, I was reading a bit on mattresses and apparently there is less stress on your muscles and circulatory system on a firm mattress, with more of the pressure resting on your bones.

I think that if the waking up with back pain comes back I'm just going to have to see a chiropractor, but I don't know... guess we will see.

I've fallen asleep in front of the fan on a hot night a couple of times. I don't recommend it on the regular but I don't wake up with much pain even after ballin for 2-3 hours. Just find a nice spot on carpet with a breeze :lol

Firm beds IMO are better. I remember when I first bought a tempurpedic bed and I was amazed. But after about 4-5 months I started to feel lumbar pain -- as if someone shoved a golf ball between my discs.

I went back to a hybrid mattress which obviously is more firm with the springs and although I can feel my wife shift at night I sleep better.
