^^^ Advanced format yet Jordan had goat PER, BPM, WS/48, VORP seasons, PPG, usage/ortg

^^^ beginner format yet lebron had inferior production rate (BPM, PER, etc)... beginner format = spacing, defensive 3/open paint, contact-free defense)

jordans competition was plumbers and car salesmen.
lebron's competition has been the worlds top athletes and once in a decade athlete freaks.

MJ won 6 rings in today's 2-star format and most of the duos he beat were better than Kawhi/PG (Lebron's best comp)
Shaq/Penny and Magic/Worthy > Kawhi/PG..... So is Malone/Stockton and Payton/Kemp/Schrempf

It was proven that mj didn't need Pippen:
89' MJ nearly beat the Pistons even though Pippen averaged 10 on 40% (14/6/3 in regular season) - he obviously would've won if Pippen was replaced by a better 2nd option, which proves that MJ didn't need Pippen to win in 89', or Phil (Phil wasn't there in 89').. So MJ didn't need Pippen or Phil - case closed - the 89' carry-job proves it

This year is lebron"s toughest path because of the 2-star format (parity)
Many teams are Finals-caliber because many teams can meet the 2-star requirement.. otoh, lebron had easier paths when 3 perennial all-star were needed, so only 2 teams were Finals-caliber (heat/spurs or cavs/warriors)
Obviously, it's easier to win when you're on one of the two Finals-caliber teams than one of MANY Finals-caliber teams
TLDR - this year's 2-star format (90's style) is lebron's toughest path, so all 6 of MJ"s rings > lebron's

Holy shit that first gif is embarrassing
Not a single defensive coverage on the perimeter and why would there be, nobody could shoot 20+ footers back then
Bunch of unskilled traffic cones sleeping in paint for that fisher price bucket
No wonder Stern moved the 3pt line to WNBA level

Superior defense of 2-point range = superior shot-makers ON defenders
Otoh, today's spacing yields open looks, so players are worse at contested shots, including mid-range... Guys like Zion, Giannis and Lebron can barely pull-up off a hard-dribble

Notice the paint camper shading LeBron in the post? This is illegal defense in the 80's and 90's. You couldn't double team like that. You had to go at the man, not zoning off and covering space.
Notice how much floor spacing there was in the 90's? That was due to Illegal defense (rule-enforced spacing!). The defenders HAD to clear out and guard their man. EVEN if he had no shooting ability. The rules FORCED them to space the floor.
To get that level of spacing today you need 3PT SHOOTERS (shooting encouraged spacing)

Your gifs aren't from this era
Pre-2016 played a lot like the 90's...
Only the last 3-4 years of record ppg and ortg are relevant
So get those Heat gifs out of here - they're similar to the 90's and not "this era"

There's a reason why 90's HOF coaches like Jerry Sloan, Phil Jackson, Jeff Van Gundy and George Karl got ran out the league
Their archaic schematics were picked apart by hyper complex offense and defensive minds of today's coaches and the high level of talent of modern players is too overwhelming.
Even advanced Popovich has been struggling to adapt, blaming 3pt shooting, spacing, politics, etc.

jordans competition was plumbers and car salesmen.
Ironically, MJ stans themselves implicitly argue this. We routinely hear the MJ stan army tell us the 90's were so weak a really, really, really bad player could be a MVP candidate and first team all-NBA (over MJ's "top comp" Malone and Barkley in multiple seasons). The logical conclusion of their argument is MJ played in a weak era in terms of talent.
