View Full Version : Why are Lakers fans/the media getting ahead of themselves?

Seen A LOT of posters and talking heads in the media completely count out the Rockets and say the Lakers will win the series 4-1. I've even seen some people say the Lakers are already going to make the actual finals...I'm actually very surprised at the media just writing the Rockets off.
Do people really think the Rockets can't win this series? It's been close through three games and the Rockets haven't had trouble playing their game against the Lakers.

Yeah, it is crazy to count the Rockets out. The games haven't been lopsided like Clippers-Nuggets and the Rockets have two MVP's that could go off in any given game or for stretches of games. For all we know it will be 2-2 after tonight.

Rockets keep choking in 4th quarters. 20 points and 17 points in the last two 4th quarters. That has been the difference in the series. We will know by the end of today if Rockets are going to make it a series or not.

Yeah, but we are talking a small sample size. For all we know they could turn it around and dominate the fourth for the remainder of the series. If they don't, we can pin the L on 4th quarter performance, like how in 18' in the WCF it was getting blown out by the Warriors in the 3rd quarter time and again.

I agree with this and the Rockets know this is a must win game. I expect them to go 110% for the whole game and if they continue their hot 3-point shooting then I could see them winning by double digits. If they go down 3-1 then yeah the series is pretty much over...but I mean after 2016 WCF and Finals, you'd think people would not think series are over even at 3-1. Even this year we had the Nugs come back down 3-1.

Rockets will win 1 more game. They will shoot lights out and Lakers will get whooped in that game. This will not be a backdoor sweep like last round, but I still see Lakers winning the series. Lakers will win 2 out of 4.

But are they getting ahead of themselves?
When was the last time LeBron lost in the 2nd round? I just don't see it happening.
The Lakers higher IQ will make the difference the more games they play. They will literally pick the Rockets apart intellectually as they collect more and more data on them.

True, but we have seen his teams lose as favorites several times. Granted, the last time was almost a decade ago but the flip side is 2020 LeBron isn't 2012 or even 2016 LeBron.
Houston is a formidable opponent. Any team with two MVP's still playing at a high level is going to have a chance in a given series. They are underdogs but the Lakers winning isn't a lock.

Could be that the script leaked. Though historically when the NBA's ratings aren't doing too well, Lebron doesn't trust any other stars to be able to bring in the viewers thus he ends up writing himself as the champ.

One of those threads where OP was really hoping would stick and could find a prestige moment to bump

Too bad this didn't live well tho. One game and they're out, proving the narrative that this year will be lbj's hardest path to the finals is just pure bs.

This. LeSpielberg usually tries to pick the best story, but he always had to be aware of ratings. His decision to write in a non American team as the champ last year was his boldest move yet, but I must say I appreciated it nonetheless. Unfortunately, only loyal fans of LeBron’s screenwriting career were in favor of that twist.

Interesting but could you please elaborate it a bit further?

Yes 9 years ago Lebron lost a series as the favorite. 9 years ago.

At some point the run will end. We now know the WCSF in 2020 isn't it.

OP made a thread suggesting that LeBron would lose in the 1st round and then made another thread saying AD is better than Hakeem, and then asks us why are WE getting ahead of OURSELVES?

Because they're the lowest IQ fans in the league...
And that's not even a dig...just a simple fact.
