Defensively

Besides Pippen who else does this apply for? Rodman and Kawhi are the only names that come to mind for the modern era.

And just to be clear, Rodman was a terrific wing defender in his Detroit years. So while he technically isn't a perimeter player, he won DPOY also guarding wings. Of course, his impact on defense spanned from the late 80s into the late 90s.

KD for about half a season. Lebron for 1-2 playoff series. Andrei Kirilenko?

Though, prior to the hand check removal wings could take over defensively with their ball pressure a la GP, Moncrief, etc.

Maybe I misunderstood. Are you referring to defensive impact or versatility?

MJ is 1 and Kobe is 2 in the article, I mean its right there lol.

This is also from 2011. Quite a few players have entered that conversation since.

You know what I meant, they're the two best, obviously MJ is #1 in the article. Lebron's debatable over Bird I guess.

Think so too, Roundball. Guys like LeBron and Jordan had a year, maybe a couple where you could say their defense was that impactful, but consistency is key. Kawhi/Pippen/Rodman brought it on that end seemingly every night. For their careers. And the impact numbers are kind to them.

Defensive impact, but if that versatility leads to bigmen impact, go ahead and explain why. I like your Kirilernko mention though, good name. Now that's a player I am on the fence with. Glove and Moncrief were great defenders however were they anchoring clubs like their bigmen counterparts? By the numbers, I don't think so.

:lol The criteria is laid out in the article and it is obvious they are talking players overall.

Here are where they rank some other wings in that same article.

Pippen 9th
Drexler 11th
Iverson 14th
Wilkins 15th
Allen 19th
Worthy 20th
Miller 22nd
Dumars 23rd

Let me guess: 1-9ball Jr. suddenly doesn't think the article is any good? :lol

Agreed. The consistency is what sets them apart but we are talking A+ defense versus A defense with these names so splitting hairs but the discussion is the GOAT wing defenders.

Don't expect an answer there. I am curious why he was the only poster in this thread bringing up offense. Sounds like he channeled his fragility from those Pippen threads into this one.

Bitterness over LeBron surpassing Kobe and insecurity over LeBron's threat to MJ's status (which explain basically every word he writes). He wishes they were 1-2. Most people would say MJ, LeBron 1-2 and then Magic, Bird, Kobe in a tier behind them but ahead of guys like West and Oscar in the next tier.

Pip in 95 had a 98 Drtg within the context of the Bulls 104 rating. Typically it's your David Robinson and Mutumbo interior defender types who have their own rating appreciably lower within the context of the team. Rodman that same year had 100 rating against the teams 105. So yeah......

Good post Phoenix. Those numbers are impressive. They also back up the posters I've seen claim 95>94 Pip on defense.
