After 4 hours a side door opens into a smaller room with a considerably more comfortable chair and a table of whatever food you request in advance each day. You eat and relax for one hour.....still no speaking or activities. If you fall asleep in that room its fine so long as you arent late returning.

You return to the larger room for 4 more hours of nothing.

You are free to go.

Its monday through friday. You report at 8am to the building with the room in it which is one mile from your home.

The internet is legit ****ed up. I mean people joke about the Simon wheelchair thing... but it’s probably not that far from the truth. There are def people out there who are homebound for whatever reason, and they really do spend all day and night as internet trolls. The guy who posted as 305 baller then DoctorP then Satan etc... would just spam shitposts night after night, replying to himself for multiple pages. And hes probably the SAME guy who does the GimmeThat gimmick. Yeah, Ballin takes the cake in recent years. I admittedly thought you were Turbo Slayer for a minute or two, then realized it couldn't be anyone other than that nutjob. I had a job something like this while in college. Show up at midnight, leave at 8. Not much to do but sit at the desk between times unless an emergency happened. Sounds great, and it was nice when I had homework and stuff to keep me busy. When school was out... you'd think you can just read a book or something for 8 straight hours but you can't. Or at least I couldn't. This was way before smart phones or any other sort of digital entertainment. I found myself pacing up and down and watching the clock, waiting for my shift to be over.

So I'm saying $50 an hour. Understand I'm comfortable financially, so the cash is more like gravy. Someone who's homeless would doubtless do the "job" for far less, doubt someone who's truly rich would even touch it.

Sidenote 1: I would totally be scheming about how to screw my employer at lunch time. Caviar and Lobster for my midday meal? Why not?

No, no one wants this. We fantasize about this if a) we're experiencing hardship and poverty, we just want to be taken care of. This is understandable but ultimately this life isn't much better. and b) if our jobs are too much pressure, they weigh on us, we think about them 24/7, etc.

But our jobs are about putting us into the current of life, so we can interact with other people and contribute to society. If we're not doing this, it's worthless and empty.

You know how women used to yearn to have careers? But they were kept in the home, and felt trapped there? It wasn't because they needed the money. It's because our jobs fulfill us, at least in part. If I'm being paid to sit in a room as part of some weird scheme... no, the only reason I would do that would be very meta, as in, I want to be on the radar of whatever eccentric billionaire thought this up. I'll assume there's a camera recording me, and do weird things to catch his attention. But the point is if I do it, it's because I view it as an opening into something interesting and fulfilling to me. Nobody wants to get paid to *literally* do nothing, unless the only alternative is poverty.
