Nick Nurse might be their third best asset.

Hes a good coach, but if I were him, Id not continue with the Raptors since they are going to rebuild soon and will not be anywhere near as good as the last 2-3 seasons.

Okay so what are his options if he was to leave?

Masai is an impatient man. He'll do whatever it takes to win now.

No brainer, but he could have left while his stock is as high as it is and gone to a team better suited to win over the next 5 years.

He would have been a great coach for Houston imo.

This.

Great teams don't rebuild, unless they absolutely have to. They keep the most successful core players as long as possible and fill the rest of each spots with good players.

Masai and his scouting team has been doing great at filling the spots with rookies that developed in-house (FVV, Terence Davis, etc) and some good free agent signings (Matt Thomas, RHJ, etc.). Right now Raptors need 1-2 new core players (1 since Kawhi left, 2 since Lowry is getting old and his contract is expiring next year) to be a top contender again.

Easy decision.

Why would they fire him otherwise? He's led them to the franchise's first championship anyway.

It wasn't about him being fired. He might have taken an opening if they didn't extend him.
