Why not just go the whole way and add Biden to the end of that?
Surely the man who defended segregation and wrote the 1994 crime bill will end racism!-the NBA

The easiest way out of poverty is a good education. Why vote for someone who is in bed with teachers' unions, who is against charter schools and school choice in any form - who would consign your children to bad, low performing schools based on your zip code with no way out?

You can't expect these spoiled ghetto athletes to actually have a background on the candidates and their policies. It's all just orange man bad no matter what. These clowns can barely speak proper english half the time and are gonna sit here trying to lecture us on something outside basketball. Too funny lmao.

I never got the Get Out The Vote shit.
"Hi, person I've never met. Are you the kind of person who will base his decision to vote on what a celebrity tells him? Well then we could really use your input on which policies the rest of us have to live by!"
I mean, maybe it makes sense if you WANT a lot of politically ignorant people to determine policy, but the problems with that approach seem obvious.

That argument loses a little punch when America elected a celebrity and many would tell you they did it specifically because he wasn’t a politician.

Are you talkin about Reagan?
Or perhaps Bill Clinton, whose sweeping popularity was about his folksy charm and playing saxophone and admitting he tried marijuana “but didnt inhale.”
Maybe Obama? He broke the record for black turnout, simply by being... black.
Or Trump, obviously, who was basically a public philanderer turned campaign trail lightning rod.
Elections are always a popularity contest. The public has never, ever been well informed. Heretofore they just picked the career politician with the most “celebrity appeal.” All Trump did was expand the pool of candidates.
So it still makes no sense to encourage even more ill informed people to turn out than already plan to.

The majority of the country didn't vote for him, but an idiot celebrity is in the White House now. Unfortunately Republicans care very much what celebrities think. KidRock, Kanye and Ted Nugent weren't invited to the White House because of the foreign policy papers they have written.

Trump was much more famous for being a reality star and a New York socialite than for being a good businessman. He isn't that good of a businessman, that is why so many of his companies either failed or went bankrupt.
You don't have to like the politics of NBA players, but spare me the "shut up and just play ball" nonsense when you vote for reality stars.

Ronald was a politician for 10+ years before president 8 of them as governor of California. Clinton an AG and governor for like 10 years. Obama a state and then US senator.
Politicians all. Donald Trump was a celebrity and game show host for 10 years.
It just is what it is.
We obviously don’t have much room to criticize political statements from media personality’s and celebs when someone who was ripped off tabloid covers was thrown into the office of the president.
Its fine. Americans have the right to pick whoever. You just shouldnt pick a celebrity openly praise him for not being a politician then complain about celebrities in politics. It appears most people don’t like politicians.
Trump fans least of all. Would you disagree?

Your assumption is that he is considered (primarily) a celebrity by those who voted for him - not a real estate businessman with different skills than your typical politician.

My point is the political backgrounds of guys like Obama, Clinton, Reagan etc are only what got them through the system and to the ballot. The reason Americans en masse picked them in the booth was their hair, or their mannerisms, or their skin color etc. Typical shallow criteria the public votes on.
Trump skipped the whole “rise thru the political ranks” and went straight to the ballot. I would argue he presented better policy ideas in his campaign than most, but even if you want to claim it was his celebrity persona... thats completely in line with how Americans have always chosen whom to vote for. It has always been immensely superficial.

All well and good.....as long as his supporters aren’t trying to keep non politicians out of their politics. You just can’t elect a guy and include among your reasons him not being a politician then tell non politicians to stay out or stay quiet. “Outsider” is on the political ads of how many people running right now? Not being in politics is a selling point to many. And a lot of those people turn around and tell people their place isn’t political discussion.
If you are anti politicians....who is supposed to talk politics?
How does one “drain the swamp” without bringing in the kind of politically inexperienced people being told to shut up?
It all comes down to which side they are on obviously. The Trump fans aren’t telling the right ring country singers to stay out of politics and strum. Long as whoever talking is saying you’re right we all take it. If they support the other side they shouldn’t be listened to. Just the way of the world from the left and the right.
Plenty on the right would react positively to that hair dresser who exposed Pelosi running for office and then turn around and talk about athletes not belonging in politics. That’s just the world we have.
Neither side gives a shit about consistency.

My main beef with celebrities talking politics is when they say stupid shit or make it about themselves without backing it up.
For instance I dont care if a guy simply endorses a democrat or a republican or a third party. But accepting an award and using your speech for a college-freshman-level political rant, when there are some people in the audience with far more political sophistication, is going to piss off those people. Because it’s basically spreading ignorance.
Thats really why so many people hated the Kap thing IMO. I personally couldnt care less what he thinks of the flag or the troops or America. But when hes turning all the attention on himself, he better articulate a seriously intelligent, nuanced position to back it up. And clearly he hasnt/cant. Hes just spreading ignorance for the sake of public glory hunting. And thats what annoys everyone.
Celebrities/athletes making legitimately thoughtful statements and backing them up in a public doalogue? People would have far less of a problem with. But most of these guys cant/wont do that, and they deservedly get shit on.
MOST people on the right you hear “speak out” are just giving an endorsement of a candidate/side or a mild rebuke of obviously batshit crazy stuff happening. They arent ranting and raving. Ted Nugent is an outlier on the right, while his liberal equivalents are the norm on the left. And even then, Nugent would still go on any interview and back up his statements. Athletes who are just repeating talking points wont do that, because they know theyll be immediately exposed. They have no clue what theyre talking about, and they know it and their critics know it. It’s just a trendy thing to do these days. And people rightfully think theyre clowns for jumping on the bandwagon.

The issue here is that when everyone is backed into their teams no matter what and you want a "seriously intelligent, nuanced position" to be broken down for you...its not possible. Why? If youre the judge of what is intelligent you arent gonna choose something that goes against your line of thinking. Youre not gonna get any argument for voting for Biden over Trump that makes you go "I never thought of it that way. I'll do just that!".
It doesnt matter what the other side says. Most Trump voters will think the other side is wrong because the conclusion isnt voting for Trump. Same in reverse.
Nobody gets a "Man....he killed it" from the other side. It doesnt matter who you are or how much credibility you have. I read a comment section from my local news site with a bunch of Maga types tearing apart Colin Powell for being anti trump. You know...purple heart, bronze star, 50 years of service, medal of freedom, Reagan NSA, chairman of the joint chiefs, Republican Colin Powell. Just ripping him as this soft liberal swampy insider and all who should shut up and stay out of it. Colin Powell...gets told the equivalent of shut up and dribble by the people in question.
It doesnt matter if its one of the most decorated men in America or some guy who plays basketball. The reason for the outrage is the opinion not the source.
If the conclusion is "Dont vote for Trump" its all painted with the same brush.

Not necessarily. Show me the comments Powell is being criticized for. Is he making a substantive case for a difference in policy? Or is he just complaining Trump is too outrageous, not presidential enough, offensive etc. People on the right reject that as being good enough. Thats not substance. And if youre not willing to discuss the substance, the more troubling issue is... why? Why focus on the frivolous, just to undermine Orange Man? Why not focus on the policy decisions first? It suggests petty, or even nefarious ulterior motives.
Who on the left is sitting down and engaging in a good faith dialogue? I guarantee those people arent just getting drowned out with boos. Where can I see Kapernick engaging in dialogue with a right leaning talk show? You know theyd have him in a second. And you know every right leaning talking head is happy to defend their positions anywhere.
OMB is about dropping soundbites and virtue signaling and kneeling and raising fists and all sorts of empty ceremonial gestures to indicate ones belonging to the group. But when it’s time for productive conversation they disappear in an instant. Conservatives tend to take this as acknowledgement of the left’s substantive invalidity, and in most cases theyre right.

"Conservatives" are white 42 year old walmart employees, with no GED, driving 96 ford rangers and taking all October off to hunt who will vote red till the day they die but dont know any of their states house members. A great many are at least. You just dont choose to acknowledge them when its time to talk about bases. Most right leaning people online are idiots in a facebook comment section or some old person who believes memes give factual information about democrats trying to destroy the earth and prevent the second coming of christ. Conservatives are the 22 year old idiot we had to fire a while back who talked about the bill of rights but didnt know 7 of them. Conservatives are the 12 toothed racists yelling about how they would never vote for a black man at a rally.
Conservatives are absolutely not making any better arguments than the left.
Both sides are like 50 million idiots and 10-12 million halfway informed people and most of the informed people still dont care enough to argue about it in full.
Talking about policy....
A huge number of voters on both sides couldnt tell you how a law is even passed.
There is no substance coming from the average voter on either end.
The best cases I ever heard made are from Libertarians. For the most part....they look into things enough to at least explain what their party is trying to do.
Neither democrats or republicans on average seem to know anything.
Talking about "acknowledgement of the left’s substantive invalidity"....
Pull 10 republican voters out of line on election day. 8 of them wont be able to spell those words. And 8 democrats wont either.
We have 100+ million people just on a team largely because of how they were raised and by who. Not because they know anything or are considering the other sides approach in a debate.

I dont disagree, and I think it’s true libertarians are generally the most sensible of the bunch (altho that group also has its fringe elements who believe in zero government), and they generally lean to the right these days. They typically identify more as conservative/republican than liberal/democrat if asked to choose.
Right now, today, people with a decent amount of common sense and aptitude and self respect lean more often to the right. Both sides have whackos and both have reasonable people, but there is no question there are more sane voices leaning right. Which is partly a testament to what an absurd dumpster fire the mainstream left has become. And people with common sense are looking at uneducated athletes masquerading as civil rights leaders at the behest of a manipulative media, and face palming.
Sure, people dont wanna be lectured with a message contrary to their own beliefs... but the other part, in the case of athletes/entertainment, is the people speaking up are CLEARLY unqualified. And that just puts people off even more.
Trump has been around business and economic issues and political insiders his entire life. Hes more qualified than his detractors give him credit for. Yet somehow the people who think Trump doesnt have the experience to lead... are lining up to follow the movements of Colin Kaeperdink, and Elaine from Seinfeld.
It’s a bit of a head scratcher.

You're missing the point that Twitter is different than ranting at an awards show or kneeling at a football game. People are on Twitter specifically to hear dumb shit. Whether it's from Trump, or Elaine from Seinfeld, or anyone else that's famous.
People dont watch or attend those other social events to hear low IQ hot takes. If you're gonna disrupt them with some attention whoring nonsense, bring something substantive for people to hear.

I 100% agree with your overall message, but I would say that IMO out-of-touch millionaires sharing their low IQ political takes is MUCH more appropriate at an awards show than a football game.
The whole point of those awards shows is for the most narcissistic industry on this planet (hollywood) to have a big circlejerk and pat themselves on the back for how great they are... and when you spend an evening giving a group of narcissists shiny trophies plus ~2 minutes to talk about themselves on national TV, some amount of shitty political takes should be expected. No doubt the dozens of gay men who still watch those idiotic award shows know that getting lectured about privilege by some of the most privileged people on the planet is just part of the standard awards show experience.
The point of football on the other hand is for some of the best athletes in the world to play a game where they run around and try to knock each others heads off. In some ways modern football serves a similar function in society as the roman gladiator fights thousands of years ago, especially in the sense that its an outlet for the masses to temporarily escape from political and economic problems and unify for a common cause. Prior to all the sports leagues getting taken over by this BLM nonsense, a sports bar was one of the few places in modern society where republicans and democrats would set aside their differences for a couple hours and focus on something they could all agree on - their support for their local team.
