You know when you haven't watched something in a long time?
Really enjoyed watching them again
Really, really good movies, especially compared to the other comic book movies these days
I could try to break it down, but I think it just comes down to having a top 5 director
You see, Nolan was early in his career -- he wanted to make Inception, and pursue his own original films...
But he didn't have the rep to his name yet
So he did Batman to build his name, his brand
I watched all of the special features/behind the scenes too...
What stuck out about Nolan, is his philosophy of prioritizing real sets, and real stunts.
He uses CGI finitely, to touch up and enhance.
So many epic scenes, like the swat van getting knocked into the river, or the truck flipping..
All real, all live stunts.

Does anyone actually rewatch those shitty marvel movies outside of the theatre?
You can watch those Nolan Batman's and they are still a masterpiece today.

Its the best ever
I generally hate super hero movies but the Batman trilogy was different. Not goofy or tacky in any way. Just flat out good.

It's apples and oranges. Nolan's films are more based on realism, and are comptenpary. They are very well written for the most part and are consistentant. The MCU movies are more campy and comic-book-like.
While I've a Batman fan through-and-through and always have been. the Portals scene, Cap wielding Mjolnir and Tony dying from Endgame is what movies are about. Withing 5 to 10 mins you go from being anxious, to being pumped, to sobbing almost because you realize your connection with a character you didn't know you had.
I won't lie...when Tony dies and his arc reactor light goes out. I almost sobbed.

The problem with Endgame is that it's a 40 minute fight of Thanos vs 1-2 characters kinda doing something, and then basically a jerkoff section one after the other of every MCU hero doing something vs hundreds of nameless.. let me rephrase, worthless villains. For me, it was just dumb action blockbuster segments.. but the Cap and in particular Tony part were pretty damn impactful. I still think Avengers 3: Part I is a noticeably better movie.

Overall I agree. Infinity War as a better movie, but Endgame had a higher apex for me.

Comparing Nolan's Dark Knight movies to the MCU is a non-starter, like comparing Apocalyse Now to Ghostbusters. Even though its all comic book source material, the makers of those films are trying to do completely different things.

these movies are like shawshank redemption - they have infinite replayability. I just got the 4k hdr set this week and its probably the third time I'm buying the movies, after having seen them all in theaters. the first one multiple times.
FYI I recommend the 4k set. its not a big jump over the blu-rays but its still noticeable.
these movies have an intelligence and heart that you wont find in 99% of hollywood movies.
nolan is a genius for making batman's wayne tech experimental military tech that is too expensive for the average person to get their hands on.
it makes the character and plot as believable as possible for something over-the-top and comic book inspired. the villains were all epic, the music is epic, and they nailed the league of shadows. batman's "ninja-training" wasn't cheesy at all. ducard/ ra's al ghul is an epic villain. then the joker then bane - talia al ghul was the only weak villian IMO. that twist didnt work for me.

The first two movies were good, even very good, but I still don't get the level of some of the praise. Spider-Man 2 and Avengers: Infinity War are just as good.

Infinity War is vastly inferior. Spiderman 2 is amazing, definitely around the same level. I think Logan and Winter Soldier are close to the same level until the last 1/4th of the movie where both are just kind of ok.

Artist is very good but not a great designer.

Does Logan count as a marvel movie? IMO it was better than the 1st or 3rd of Nolans Batman films.
