View Full Version : Mike had an awful lot of shots. But one of them had a whole generation steal it.

As the (likely)GOAT scorer of course he had a wide array. Including some people are barely aware of happening back then. He had one foot fade-aways, long range step backs, and casual eurosteps 25-30 years ago:

But what I mean is that gotdamn fake one way shoot the other fade-away. We all took hundreds of them but the separation he could get....

It’s like how 500 bigs can do a skyhook but they never quiiiite look like Kareems. Lots of people do that move and make the shot but it rarely if ever looks that clean.

Is that move just about out of the repertoire of upcoming swing men? I don’t mean has it been done by someone recently. Everything gets done eventually even if you don’t have it in your normal move set. I’m asking if you notice young players doing it like everyone was doing it back in the day.

I know Tatum and Leonard do it at times. Everyone over like 21 should have seen enough of it as a kid to have set out to do it....but that whole generation of wings after Jordan clearly put in work at it.

I guess that move for kids now is Hardens step back or Stephs one motion jumper if you count that as a “move” which I wouldn’t.

Far as a real move...it’s Hardens. That’s the one the entire next generation will have. I wonder if it will be like Mike with copycats who never quite have the same snap on it....

Tmac did put a lot of snap on this one on Kobe though:

And we all remember Kobe hitting a couple thousand of them himself.

Just usually not with MJs torque.

that shot is sometimes referred to as the "windshield wiper", aka goat jumpshooting skill.. no one had more jumpshooting variety as mj, except Kobe.. they're the 2 most skilled jumpshooters ever, and their jumpshooting volume/efficiency stats support this

if the game was jumpshots only, they would still average 30+

I feel a need to mention one more name just before someone else does and I feel stupid...

Hakeem. Hakeem broke the **** outta some guys on that same basic move.

Yeah, the thing is that he didnt do it very often, that's why they never became associated with him.

Oh yeah the 1st move I tried to replicate myself. I got a question tho, was Mike the 1st one to do this? I ask because it seems like every move he was the 1st guy I'd see do it, someone would come along and post a clip of Elgin Baylor or Wilt etc doing it in the 60s. Blew my mind to see Baylor doing a "euro" step 30 years before having European players was common.

The half spin is so exaggerated and convincing that he's going all the way that the defender has no choice but to fully bite, and then they're practically out of the frame when he reverses gears.

Jordan’s step back is a hard plant off one foot and a step back. Not, 2 or 3 steps going back that harden does.

One skill jordan didnt have and no other player has is when lebron stares down at the ball before a shot then takes a slow step back for a jumper.

This advanced kind of shit no one else does. Its revolutionary and quite important for modern offense.

I'm mainly a 3 and D guy at my current age, but I have some skill. I had a shorter guy on me and I did the dream shake/MJ/Kobe fake left and shoot fading right. I shook the guy but he fouled me :( I got no luck. Everyone would have ooh'd and aah'd at it because no one really has those kinda skills at the park but apparently I don't either if I can't even get the shot off.

I mean the third one, the eurostep isn't a bad move

You mean Hakeem? He did it a good bit.
