Years ago when he was filmed begging he said he was doing it on behalf of a leg less guy he was helping out because it was hot that day.

I don’t know what the situation is now.

If it’s really him(and considering what we have seen I don’t doubt it) I really don’t see how it comes to this. He’s got a pension that will be about 60k a year if he starts collecting at 45 in 8 years but that’s looking a long way off if you’re in the streets.

How many people do you have to have not like you to play with 12-14 millionaires for 10 years and end up begging for change?

I know he has other issues but....shit.

I feel like I remember someone(Wade?) trying to find him last time when he got beat up. Nba might need to give him his pension early....

Fvck, I know its not NBA's job to take care of guys like these, but damn.. Its sad how no one really cares, dudes been lost in the streets for years now it seems

In these rough times, you'd expect his girlfriend Gloria to help him out.

Thats an understatement, he seems to have a major case of a bipolar disorder

That would be a start but if he managed to end up on the street in spite of making NBA millions, 60k a year ain't gonna fix this dude. He needs serious intervention. I don't actually know the story of how he ended up like this to begin with, but man...

Plenty of people reach out to Delonte. The amount of "help" from ex players putting themselves out there for him has been overwhelming.

Cavs spent an entire 2 years bottle feeding this dude to stay on his medication

He's a habitual relapser and choses to self medicate with street drugs, plain n simple.

And when you continue to use peoples checkbook to fuel your addiction, they cut you off and you end up on the corner.

You find it hard to believe I could be in Dallas, Texas right now?

That’s a really weird thing to refuse to believe.

You can give him all the money in the world, but it wont help him if he does not see the problem or is able to help himself.

West is legit crazy. He needs to have self control. If he continues with his addiction. He'll be gone by the end of the year.

It can do a lot, though. It's better than not having it.

Can we all come together to pour one out for him as a player? I always liked Delonte West. I remember wishing the Celtics had kept him instead of Rondo. I thought his game matched the big 3 better. That was a rough take on my part, but... I liked him. I hope he gets better.

Wasn't he basically a top 3-4 player on a contender for a couple years in Cleveland? My memory is hazy but that's how I remember it.

Not without getting to the root of how he blew through multiple times that amount as a pro athlete.

Lakers could play Delonte right now as is and he would still shoot better than Green

Or how a pro athletes mother blew him.

i think nba pension pays out based on years of service and the max is age 62, earliest is age 45

if you max out at age 62 and played 10 years in the league they will pay you 215k a year

Mark Cuban personally went to get him:

Mark Cuban confirmed that he picked up Delonte West today at a Dallas gas station and is working with West’s family to try to help the homeless former NBA player get his life back on track. First reported by @TMZ.

He let his actions speak this time instead of mere words. I guess i could finally start respecting him.
