Chairman Mao was one of the most influential figures in modern history. He was a revolutionary leader, soldier, writer and poet, and was instrumental in moving China away from right wing economic practices. Here are some of his biggest accomplishments as the leader of China:

•Raised the average lifespan of China from 35 to 63
•Transformed China from an agrarian society into a industrial world superpower
•Opened up China to the USA
•Free healthcare
education
•Increased literacy in Chuna 20% to 65.5%
