yes, very common in the playoffs especially. phil jackson made a habit of doing this

Yep it happens every year by every team. It just got attention because of Lebron. Houston went crazy with it against Golden State.

Haha yeah, I think it was $100k, which is a huge amount for a coach's salary. But I think it was so severe because he hinted at game fixing...and we all know how that turned out. Can't be hinting against the 'integrity' of the game. I thought the amount seemed funky at the time...a couple years later and Tim Donaghy and we know why. Very suspicious behavior by Stern on that one.
