"Kawhi was a great player, but he wasn't a leader," Popovich told reporters Saturday. "Manu [Ginobili] and Patty [Mills] were the leaders. Kawhi's talent will always be missed, but leadership wasn't his deal at the time. That may come as he progresses. Patty and Manu filled that role for us last year. LaMarcus [Aldridge] came a long way as a leader also."

He's just a choker who depends on a system to be already built to thrive.

Pop preaching to the choir.

That shifty looking rat may be one of the best players alive, but he for damn sure isn't a leader.

Sounds a lot like LeBron.

Bro lebron has been to 10 finals in 17 years.

He makes the finals nearly 60% of the time.

4 rings
4 mvps
4 fmvps
10 finals

he doesnt have a perfect finals record, so what? going to the finals and losing is the second best outcome. is it better to have 4 gold medals and 0 silver, or 4 gold medals and 6 silvers?

goin to the finals is still better than losing earlier. this is obvious to any fan without an agenda. would you rather your team lose in the first round or make the finals?

this guy is the personification of winning.

Sounds a lot like LeBron.

That sounds nothing like LeBron. LeBron is the system.

It sounds like Jordan who needed the triangle or else he would just keep losing.

It also makes sense with Kawhi in Toronto. Raptors' leader has always been Kyle Lowry and still was during the championship season. Kawhi did bring winning mentality to the team though.

Lots of great players aren't great leaders. Kareem, Hakeem, Shaq, Durant, Curry, Wilt, Barkley, etc.

So, does that mean Duncan wasn't a leader also?

Who's going to be the leader on the Nets? The Closer?

The main leader of a team should be the head coach and assistant coach.

Its not about being a leader, Kawhi/Durant/AD all just thrive next to a floor general/playmaker.

Kawhi needed Lowry
Jordan needed Pippen
Durant needed Draymond

And now we're seeing that Anthony Davis thrives with a floor general/playmaker in LeBron. Kawhi with clippers never had a floor general and playmaker, he had to do everything by himself and averaged 6 assists per game. Durant also didn't have a floor general with thunder because Westbrook is too out of control and we saw Durant's playoff struggles. Jordan never won anything until Pippen.

LeBron is different because he actually needs an elite scorer (Irving, Davis) next to him because LeBron is an inferior scorer to Kawhi/Jordan/Durant. All about finding the sidekick that compliments you.

Spurs' Tony Parker takes jab at Kawhi Leonard, says his quad injury was 'a hundred times worse'
The Spurs recently held a team meeting in which Leonard was questioned about when he would return

Tony Parker on his return from the career-threatening quad injury he suffered last May: I’ve been through it. It was a rehab for me for eight months. Same kind of injury (as Kawhi), but mine was a hundred times worse. But the same kind of injury. You just stay positive."

Finally someone understands the scorer/playmaker dynamic.
