TPTB is using this crisis/lockdown as an opportunity to push automation for the future. Without the virus, they can't justify laying off 80% of their employees so they use the pandemic as the perfect excuse to do it and thus pushing automation on to society.
This world will be changed forever from now on :biggums:

There's no "they" who's "using" this. People are making spontaneous decisions all over the world that result in consequences that have downsides.
Do you order books on Amazon or from the publisher? Do you buy your food at Kroger/Wegman's, or at farmer's markets? Every time someone switches to Geico or uses an ATM, automation wins. Because people want convenience and find face-to-face interaction draining (especially with people who always seem to want something from you, like for you to sign up for a membership card at whatever store whenever you check out), innovators keep developing automation further.
It's not They. It's you and me.
Also, keep in mind the unemployment rate in the developed world has been about 5% for the last 100 years straight. There's always a job opening up for every one that closes. It just might be a more automated / soul-sucking job. And that's too bad--honestly, the downside is real. But it's not a conspiracy.

:applause:
Automation is the future. COVID may have changed the timeline of implementation but the trend was going that way for a while now. Another area where COVID is actually affecting more significantly in my opinion is the teleworking revolution. These are individual decisions made and they are made because there are real benefits (along with the negatives). Those who can't adapt will struggle.

"They" are using covid to change our work environment too...a lot of people who are working out of their home, particularly in the tech industry, won't be going back to an office when covid is gone. They'll be working from home permanently. No office space needed...it's much cheaper and more efficient.
We have always been on a path to never having to leave home, and everything being brought to us...covid only sped up that inevitable destiny.

Covid is a great and progressful thing. Now everyone can stay at home and watch Cuties to stay educated.
Wonderful.

The number one reason Democrats and neocon RINOs moved to quickly shut down the entire country and exaggerate the threat to public health, is to get Trump out of office. Not to mention flooding more money into the market to produce inflation, counteracting recent minimum wage increases. There are myriad ways this faux crisis has been purposefully abused.
These novel flu strains come around every 2-3 years. Bird flu, Swine flu, West Nile, SARS, H1N1, Corona virus...
Initially all the politicians said it was no big deal... then the second Trump agreed it was no big deal, they quickly switched sides and threw an enormous fear campaign and used it to villify Trump for the upcoming election. It was an obvious, calculated bait and switch.
The people who fell for it are typical, generic members of the low IQ public. Gullible and easily cajoled by rhetoric and hysteria.
I want to stress this very clearly. If you are one of the people who could not see this for what is clearly was...
You are probably the base, quintessential sucker. The kind who will think Im the bad guy for calling you a sucker, as your lunch gets stolen by people pretending to be concerned and protective of you.
Most of you are suckers. It’s that simple.

Drone industry has also been pushed forward a few years due to COVID. It will damage delivery/transportation jobs, especially delivery. More and more food is being delivered through drones along with lightweight medical supplies.
Drones are also very useful for agriculture things like spraying disinfectants, planting seeds/trees, pest control, etc. Security. Photography. Research.

Is it a coincidence that all the powerful people in this world just got even more richer during this pandemic??

Facebook and Amazon's stock increased in value in relation to people staying at home and using Facebook/Amazon more frequently, resulting in higher earnings and increased stockholder confidence
There's no coincidence, the pandemic undoubtedly helped Facebook and Amazon's business, and the CEO's of said businesses whose net worth is closely tied to the value of their companies stock prices, benefited financially.
