Probably the most skilled guitar player to ever play.

Roth > Hagar btw

Do you have to be wrong about everything? Hagar’s band Montrose eclipsed Roth’s entire career on its own.

That's true but DLR VH >>> Van Hagar...its not even a debate TBH. DLR VH were a grittier band, Van Hagar were to sugary.

There isn't a song in the Van Hagar catalogue that approaches this song on attitude and in your face rock...

Eddie took the guitar to the next level. He was definitely the best of his day.

Don't know much about him or the band, but I do have couple Van Halen songs on my playlist like 'Jump' (don't remember the other song name). RIP.

What other songs from them do you guys like a lot??

You might be more familiar with the poppier Hagar era but most Van Halen fans love the David Lee Roth era, here are a few of my favorites...

And The Cradle Will Rock

Atomic Punk

So many great songs though, listen to their albums, especially their Roth era discography

Eddie took the guitar to the next level. He was definitely the best of his day.

And he was talented on the keyboards. Does this hurt his guitar prowess legacy at all? So many of their songs had catchy synth/organ/piano intros. Most guitar bands always led with guitar intros on their biggest hits

So incredibly sad today.
Van Halen with Sammy was the best.

Sucks to lose one of the greats but homeboy chain smoked like you read about even after he was diagnosed. Thousands and thousands of dudes picked up guitars for the first time because of Ed; you can't say that about just anyone.

Also, the only things Roth did better than Sammy were cheerleader splits and prance around in tight spandex. Sammy is ten times the singer, songwriter and frontman Roth could ever be. There's no denying that those early VH records hold their best hits but when Sammy joined the band, those songs got better. Sammy is a true rock legend; Roth is a caricature of an 80s frontman.

RIP.

I’ll listen to a VH song here or there, cant say I found them particularly compelling as songwriters. I know EVH was very influential as a guitar player tho, so nuff respect.

His guitar solo on Michael Jackson's 'Beat It' was amazing
