Butler wasn't even a top 10 player in the league any season of his career.

Instead of pushing forth and having a historic Finals showing he should have just been swept by the Pacers in the 1st round right guys? :lol

No but it wouldn't of really mattered either. 30 years from now nobody is gonna be talking about jimmy butlers runner ups. Nobody is gonna say butler was better than tracy mcgrady because he had 2 runner ups. Nobody cares.

Heres a question. How much is a finals appearance worth? Would you trade 1 championship for 25 runner ups? Of course you wouldn't neither would anyone else. You wouldn't trade 1000 for 1. Runner ups dont mean shit. Just means you lost a bit later. Still lost though.

How much is a finals appearance worth?

A lot according to MJ stans--for 90's players. They sing songs about Drexler, Barkley, Malone, Miller, Payton, Ewing losing in the finals (never mentioning Ewing, Miller only made the finals when MJ was retired). Yet for the 2010's and 2020 suddenly it doesn't matter.

What? Tracy McGrady never got out of the 1st round and you're saying Butler's Finals run won't compare? You're dead wrong it absolutely matters.

Butler is literally better than every player that MJ ever faced in the playoffs except maybe Barkley.

Butler isnt even a top 5 lebron opponent.

Lebron > MJ

Ok so how much is a runner up worth then? Answer the question. Would you trade 1 chip for 1000 runner ups? Why not?

You just mentioned Tracy McGrady, a guy that was stuck in the 1st round for his entire career.

Better question

Who got a better legacy boost?

2018 Durant or 2020 Butler

We both know the answer to this :pimp:

Just because bron and the lakers made jimmy loom like he's a star dosn't mean he is one. Magic, worthy, Clyde, barkley, stocton and malone where all better. Nobody even wanted the guy just a year ago

You would really put that on 36 year old LeBron instead of 27 year old 2nd in DPOY votes AD? You're delusional

Kd

You get the point, so keep up with the discussion. Butler having that type of Finals series, beating everyone in his path en route to the finals including MVP Giannis was a big legacy booster. KD's 2018 ring is a cracker jack ring.

Don't forget Barkley, Malone, Stockton and Ewing's career looking a lot better with 1st round exits instead of their finals appearances.

They should have saved their legacy's by having more Jordan 1-9 1st round beatings :lol

I agree its a cracker jack ring but historically kd's ring will be way bigger. A chip is a chip. You should agree because this is somewhat of a cracker jack ring too. One of the best ever with the best big in the game against a team with 0 stars and basically 3 rookies. If brons ring counts so does kd's

It is absolutely insane there are people that will argue Shaq is a bigger winner than lebron because he went 4-2 in the finals instead of 4-6 as if choking to the Spurs and Pistons before the finals helped Shaq's legacy.

WRONG

KD's all-time legacy bump from 2017 to 2018 was minimal
Butler's legacy bump from 2018 to 2020 was HUGE

I wouldn't go that far. It would have been a colossal loss for Lebron to fail to beat the Heat, but Durant went to a team with 3 all nba players on it already. In 2018, the team had 4 all stars. I would question if the 2018 title will be remembered in higher regard than the 2020 title. Lebron certainly had a superstar running mate, but KD's running mate in 2018 (If he wasn't the running mate) was a 2x MVP.

It helped Durant's legacy to win a title even with a stacked team because now he does have the "championship" label next to his name, but it was not a huge boost. Lebron getting his 4th title, 3rd with another franchise is a pretty big boost.

In the 2019, they already have five all-stars from the preceding season in the lineup due to the addition of demarcus cousins. And the dub stans after the 2019 wcf said they'll have no problems in the postseason with kd sidelined because of the fact that the warriors swept the blazers. That is until last year's finals came; kawhit and the raptors feasting them in the first four games had to change their narrative. They were so dumbfounded after that loss.
