View Full Version : Did MJ need to make more Finals and win more rings to be the GOAT?

He only had 6 rings and we all know he never had a great ring. His best ring was...? No one knows really, they are all pretty average or below average.

If MJ had made more Finals and won a strong championship would he have a better case as the goat?

I will eventually make a thread comparing the #1 SRS team from 1989 (Cavs), to the #6 team from 07' (Pistons)

The #1 SRS Cavs in 89' (3 all-stars plus 20/5/5 Ron Harper) > any team that lebron beat in the the East

Indeed, the 88' or 89' Bulls would've won the 07' and 09' East.. maybe Jordan's 86' or 87' teams could've won the East those years

Outside of your 3 guy 20 alt circle jerk there's only a small minority who believes Lebron is the GOAT and that number will drop after his recency bias is gone.

Your guy won and all you do is melting down over some retired insecure psycho who just happened to be an excellent basketball player.

Why? You really think you're going to convince any of the bran jock sniffers? Why bother wasting your time with such lengthy replies and threads? These millennial dweebs are living in the moment. They're not going to change their beliefs about LeBron. They missed out on MJ... and the only way to makeup for that is by propping up some stiffarming colluder with a broken jumpshot, no footwork and a bad hairline. Just give these losers the good old "6 Finals Losses" that pisses them off (because they know those 6 losses also came with major shitting of the bed by LeBron) and move on.

Anyone who's not a complete retard knows LeBron was never going to catch up to MJ and he most certainly didn't with 6 finals losses. Kareem has 6 rings from 9 finals appearances. LeBron hasn't even passed Kareem yet with their logic of 'hey, participation awards matter!'

What do you mean by he 'only' had 6 rings? 6 is not a big number?

ESPN just came out with a survey of experts. In it 30% had LeBron>MJ and they said if he wins a 5th ring that becomes 41%, with a 6th ring it becomes a 69%. MJ stans wouldn't be insecure and melting down if the threat were not real.

MJ could have won 10 rings and Lebron would still be the GOAT.

True. He'd need 6 losses instead for you to consider him greater than LeBron.

Honestly, if you do not have at least 10 Finals appearances you can't be the greatest to ever do it in my book. Now Russell, Kareem and LeBron, that's a good list. LeBron gets the edge to me, but if someone were to say the former two were the GOAT, I wouldn't disagree with him or her. Notice how all three were pioneers as well, notice how all three stood for their community? They were the three greats on and off the court. :applause:

In order to compete with LeBron MJ would've had to win more in the playoffs and defeat tougher competition. 6 finals doesn't cut it.

Bulls built a statue for him and called him the GOAT after he won 3 championships. Funny how rings weren't a part of the conversation back then. Must've been based on something else, because plenty of stars had 3 rings back then.

It's because he needed perfect conditions to win.

Mike needed a perfectly crafted system. He needed it tailor made to win. Mike won because of a system.

He needed to have an elite 2 way player at small forward, No Pip? NO CHIP. He needed the legendary GOAT head coach. He had to play in Chicago. He had to play under no legal zone defense.

Give LBJ the worst front office that hadn't won a championship in 50 years and he will find a way to win. Stick Lebron in Cleveland, Miami, Los Angeles. It doesn't matter. LeBron's number two option star can be a point guard like Kyrie, a shooting guard like Dwayne Wade, or a big man like Anthony Davis. Again, it doesn't matter, he always finds a way to win. And don't forget, Ty Lue is no Phil Jackson.

Michael needed a tailor made, perfectly crafted system to get out of the 1st round.

LeBron just needed a ball.
