I still think that KG shouldve won FMVP in 2008. He was the true Alpha in the 2008 Celtics.

2-5 are tough and I think all 4 are pretty much right in the same ballpark GOAT ranking wise, so I listed them in the order I would if we were doing a general all-time GOAT list. Ask me again in a week and I may flip 3-5, that's how close I think it is.

I am curious why people are so willing to rank Russell highly yet completely ignore Bob Pettit. Their careers heavily overlap. 11 years, 11 x all-star, 11 x All NBA, 10x first-team, 2x MVP (the first ever awarded and another in league where prime Bill Russell existed) Only player to take a ring off Russell and the Celtics dynasty for like 10 years, dropped 50 in the closeout game 6.

Russell won a championship in every year of his life from 1955-1966. 12 years in a row. Except the one year he lost to Pettit.

Pettit usually gets ranked in the low teens or high 20's. It wasn't until recently he's dropped outside the top 20.

Has same amount of MVP's as Duncan and Malone (and Giannis but he hasn't entered the consensus top 5 PFs.) Has more rings than Dirk and KG.

He's usually the 6th player mentioned from the 1960s' Fab Five of Wilt, Russell, Baylor, West and Oscar.

Maybe what gets him left off is he pre-dated them by a few seasons. He came in at the tail end of the Mikan era and retired in the middle of the 60s with the Fab 5 all still in their prime. Pettit retired at 32 with a 22/12 avg. To compare, Elgin Baylor at 32 was putting up 27/13, basically his career avg. Pettit probably could've played until the end of the decade judging by his numbers.

Dolph Schayes at 32 - 23/12 All-Star
Dave DeBusschere at 32 - 16/10 All-Star ... retired by 33
Jerry Lucas retired at 33 as well ...
Gus Johnson at 32 - 18/17 All-Star ... retired by 34

What's your list? I'm still struggling between Nowitzki and Pettit.

I'm not sure. That is why I wanted to do this, it's very interesting.

Tim Duncan is the only constant here so far. Karl Malone hasn't made everyone's top 5, and neither has Dirk, Chuck or KG. I'd like to see why some of you guys left them off of your five. Every now and then a Hayes will sneak in, a McHale or in your case Pettit.
You're one of the guys, you don't have Malone in your top 5?

The reason KG can't be ahead of Barkley and Dirk is playoff performance. The guy never once scores more than 35 points in a playoff games. Not once in his entire career. And his efficiency sucked in the playoffs.

I don't care how good he was on defense, he was too limited on offense, which is clear as day when looking at his playoff performances.
