View Full Version : Jordan floated and hung in the air.... Lebron drops like a rock

I'll admit that if the 280-pound lebron could float in the air like MJ, he would be superior.

But only MJ had the athleticism to float and hang in the air like no other player ever has - Lebron just runs guys over (inferior skill) and isn't an elite shooter from anywhere (inferior skill)

Thank you for conceding LeBron is superior.

280 lbs > 220 lbs.
Bigger, taller, stronger.

Wrong.

You're completely forgetting the mental side of the game which Jordan completely decimates Lebron in. We're talking about the ALPHA of alphas here. You take away the best part of Jordans athletic ability, it's a no brainer it changes the landscape of things but MJ will find a way to dominate his opponents from sea level. He was that cerebral.

Imagine if Lebron could float in the air, great more time for him to rethink his instincts and make some boneheaded move that he can blame his teammate for.

Players played basketball. Jordan played to win. It's a whole other level not that even Lebron could sniff and I'll admit he's a great player but he's not Jordan.

How come Jordan mentality couldn't make him better than 1-9 without Pippen?

If Jordan was so cerebral what happened in 1995?

And the Wizards years in year 14 and 15?

Why did the "alpha of alphas" retire as reigning MVP simply because a teammate left? I've never heard of an "alpha" do anything like that anywhere. An "alpha" would simply move on to a new crew around him.

Its more about body control. Scientifically speaking hangtime dosn't really exist. Even mj himself said its like an obstacle illusion you just see what you wanna see. Its his body control in the air that was way above brons.

SB Nation details the Spurs' exploitation of Lebron/Wade skillset

There's a reason Miami is struggling when lebron/wade are on the floor together.. The Spurs' defensive strategy throughout the playoffs has been simple: identify players who aren't good spot-up shooters and help mercilessly off them to cramp the space of penetrators.

Wade has been one of the players San Antonio identified as a poor spot-up shooter that can be helped off mercilessly. That has cramped LeBron's space when the two are in together. The inverse is also true: the Spurs are shrinking Wade's space by helping off LeBron.

However, when one of the two is out of the game in favor of additional perimeter shooting, there's nobody the Spurs can help off, giving LeBron and Wade more space to be themselves and attack San Antonio's air-tight schemes.

https://www.sbnation.com/2013/6/19/4444164/lebron-james-dwyane-wade-heat-spurs-nba-finals-game-6

TLDR: the Spurs forced Wade and Lebron to be spot-up shooters (their weakness) by leaving them open when the other guy drives.. otoh, Jordan was an elite spot-up shooter and off-ball player, so the Spurs couldn't employ their strategy and would lose.. otoh, the Spurs perfected their strategy in 14' and destroyed the Heat

Jordan did everything

He drop-step posterized and knocked Barkley over.. ditto his ex sidekick Woolridge

Yet he also mitigated defenders while in the air with no peer

aka he did everything.. he was a missile and a hang-glider... elite on-ball and off-ball.. so there was no way for teams to exploit Jordan like teams did Lebron quite overtly (see previous post above)

Reggie Lewis was simply a great player - look how much better he was than Pippen as #1 option in the playoffs:

Playoffs

92' LEWIS..... 28/4/4.. 57.0 ts.. 23.8 PER.. 0.177 ws.. 4.1 dbpm.. 2.6 obpm.. 6.8 bpm.. 0.9 vorp

But MJ still averaged 34 on 54% against Lewis in head-to-head matchups when both were starting SG's (see previous post above)

Vertical jumps don't work simply by looking at where the player's head is near the rim. LeBron also has 2-3 inches of height advantage over MJ depending on which point of their careers you're looking at, which influences how the vertical appears.

So because a 7 footer's head is closer to the rim on a jump than say, Spud Webb, it doesn't mean that they actually have a higher vertical than Webb.

Also, jumping without the ball can be deceiving. Here's a clip of MJ where his head appears above the rim.

Who cares about head at the rim (although MJ has plenty of video and pics showing his head at the rim)

The issue is the floating, hanging and gliding.. no one in history floated like MJ and it looked weird watching him because no one else hung in the air like him

Man relax. Someone posted a video of LeBron with his head seemingly above the rim. What I'm trying to say is that we have footage of MJ doing the same. The problem is both of these videos are of Mj and LeBron moving without the ball. It's not as impressive as jumping with the ball, in traffic.

In addition, Jordan's highest jumping days are when he first entered the league, up to about 1988-89. We don't have a lot of footage from those days. In fact, we barely do. Most people are relying on what they saw from MJ between 1995-98.

Twice the points and equal assists = goat load

Show me someone else that doubled their sidekick's scoring average and still matched them in assists... Waiting..

MJ matched Pippen in assists and actually assisted 33% more often (higher assist percentage.. 28 to 21).. aka MJ got equal assists on less available shots because MJ can't assist on his own shot volume (which is higher than pippen's)

So MJ doubled pippen's scoring and assisted 33% more often, aka goat load BY FAR

Myth.

There's no such thing as hang-time. Physics says so. MJ jumps pretty high and shoots on the way down, while most players prefer to shoot near the apex of their jump. Aka shooting on the way down isn't a good shot for most and Mj turned it into a pet move.

But if you need op, here's more proof of Mjs "hangtime"

Jordan at the foul line after getting clobbered on any number of bizarrely made layups in a half-court set offense where he had to contort in mid-air just to get a look at the basket because he was in the paint against larger interior defenders or because his teammates did not work as hard to get open for a look nor work as hard to get Michael a look is the stuff of legend. He probably converted a higher percentage of conventional three-point plays than his overall free throw percentage.

He's releasing the ball on the way down

Do you seriously not understand this? :facepalm

He's releasing it after anyone else ever would, due to superior hops off 2 feet and body control, aka hang time

So he's releasing it after anyone else ever did, and yes, he's hanging several hundredths or tenths longer than anyone else ever did

These are the facts and that's why you can't show me anyone else that looks similar shooting jumpers or hangtime layups/shots

Due to the trajectory that's achieved on the shot there's no point in trying to block the shot, as centers later learned not to make this mistake. I wonder how many goaltending calls Michael got in his favor.

^^^^^ A straight dunk - no double-pump or cradle because he has no hangtime - see real hangtime below:

lmao, Jordan has to reach forwards to make the dunk

meanwhile LeBron does his usual cockback dunk parellel to the rim

it doesn't hurt to have huge hands

allowed Michael not only to double clutch the ball, but also cradle the ball in hands and then adjust it for a dunk
