And how good can you really be at cooking compared to the rest, I mean really?

Excuse my ignorance I'm sure you could be an amazing cook and stick out, but so could thousands of others... Like there isn't anything you could do to set yourself apart from EVERYONE else.

He has to be a great chef with all those credits he has legitimately earned but he is more of a TV personality nowadays. They just want to have him being mad at people for more views.

i mean, earning those michelin stars is no joke, but he's definitely more of a tv persona now because he's entertaining af.

he's probably not the best in the world, but you can make an argument that he is/has been one of the top chefs.

It’s a lot of both Im sure.

You have to know every detail of the kitchen to prepare a world class menu. Thats the part anyone can do with enough time and practice.

In terms of guest experience at the restaurant as a whole, there are hundreds of small choices you can make in terms of plate presentation, seasonal menu items, ambience, etc. That part takes creativity and intuition. You also have to be super driven from a business perspective to make sure everything is always running smoothly with ingredient deliveries and plumbing and employee schedules and a million diff things seven days a week.

So it’s really kind of a cumulative thing I think. Theres nothing about cooking that anyone cant learn IMO. But restauranteuring involves a lot more.

Cooking is like shooting basketball. We say JJ Redick in one of the best shooter in the world but there are thousands of people who can shoot. But JJ has proven himself in the NBA, just Like Ramsay has proven himself in the biggest stage.

except its not. everyone has the same possibilities/opportunities in the kitchen. its a matter of effort, and to a certain degree also obviously skill and handiness and timing etc.

but its impossible in cooking for one person to dominate the rest like one could in an actual sport. there just isnt much to differentiate cooks at a certain point anymore.

starface explained it well.

A lot of people can cook well in a nice environment, just like a lot of people can shoot in an empty gym.

But when the going get tough, like cooking in front of a camera live while talking, or creating a michelin star kitchen that perform every day, we gonna trust many people over Ramsay? I think not, just like we'd not trust many people over Redick to shoot the ball in the NBA.

I wonder if the OP has ever eaten at a three star Michelin restaurant. I wonder if the OP has ever eaten a dry aged sous vide cooked steak.

Sure, but nothing here disproved what I said.

Its impossible to be the runaway best in the world at something like cooking, or even make out something like a "top 10" lol. Its too accesible and manageable for everyone.

Didn't you ask one of the best and not runaway best? I think he's considered one of the best. Just like Redick is considered one of the best shooter in the world, despite thousands of people can also shoot.

No I didn't. The OP you quoted asked if cooking was really something in which a few men could seperate themselves from the rest of the world, starface put it well.

I'm sure Ramsay is one of the best as many alluded to here, and there are probably thousands of others who are also among the best. Nothing to seperate them.

You can compare two renowned British celebrity chefs doing a dish that is not in their repertoires.

Gordon really seems like he knows his shit for sure, him having more than Michelin-star restaurants shows what a monster he really is. Also spent time going all across the world to see what others do live, you can do nothing but respect the man. The fact that the guy is also a superstar in front of a camera just makes him a f*cking monster, he can do it all. :applause: If I wanted to learn how to cook, he'd be one of the people I'd love to learn under.

Been heavily getting into cooking and makign hybrids of certain dishs with my own inventions. Some of the things I have done have amazed and flat out disgusted people. Even my sister told me on the phone last time that some weird things I do she can see the thought behind it except for a certain scrambled eggs dish that has disgusted every person I showed pictures to/or explained. I'm currently looking for some creme fraiche to buy but it's hard as hell to find to make his omelette dish. I know you can make it, but I honestly don't even remember what it tastes like so I'd rather not make it (need a base, point of reference first).
