View Full Version : Even if Trump ends up losing, isn't this election still a loss for Dems?

If given the choice:
1. Have your party have the presidency but minority senate
2. Have the opposition have the presidency but control the senate
Wouldn't you take #2 all the time?
This is what Dems are going to get. They still ultimately lost, none of their stuff will get pushed through. Am I missing something?

The Democrats still have a chance at tying it with the runoff in Georgia, also there's the 2022 elections with more GOP senate seats at stake than DNC
You would rather have 1. in this current scenario
No. You think the Dems want the Senate? Then people would expect them to get stuff done
Now they have their guy in the WH and a built-in excuse for when America continues to be shit. “Well we wanted to help poor people but the meany pants senate wouldn’t let us ”

Trump was prepared to lose the senate. Was telling people some of the senate republicans in trouble weren’t worth the effort. He’d take #1 all day and every Trump supporter here would be talking shit for 4 years senate or no.

Yeah I know Trump would rather #1 but he has an obvious reason for that.
Idiot supporters I can see as well, but they're of no concern to me. I was looking through this from a higher up point or view. What good is the presidency if I get nothing done?
Of course if they just want to keep status quo, that's my answer why #1 would be the choice.
If I control the senate, nothing is getting by us that we don't like.
The Dems have a very weak mandate and the house Democrats are already infighting. Trump is gone, but his working-class coalition might be rebuilt by a Republican in the future, especially if the Dems aren't able to fix the economy while dealing with Covid.

They will be improving their position so its a win. Just not as big a win as they were hoping for. They need to find a way to get people to sp saying things like "defund the police." IMO they would have won the Senate if they could have settled for the BLM message without letting themselves be seen as anti police.

In the end it he senate will always be tough because places nobody lives get 2 senators regardless. Make Puerto Rico and dc states it’s another story but minus something that drastic republicans will always have the Wyoming, Kansas, Idaho, and all that advantage to offset less total American support.
Its the only thing that keeps the democratic majority from owning all government.

I agree with you.
Also.. Democrats, including Bernie/AOC/etc, also need to distance themselves from the socialist word. That word, along with 'atheist', is political suicide in this country. You don't want to be anywhere near that word. Even if you have a socialist platform, do NOT use that word. I think Trump campaign had the right idea drawing Biden as a socialist even though he is nothing like a socialist. Perception becomes reality. 70mill voted for Trump, and I guarantee you at least 25% of them legit thought Biden was a socialist.
FDR was smart enough to distance himself from ideological terms like “socialism”. You can't use that word in this country as FDR understood in 1930s. People accused FDR of being socialist after he passed things like social security and he always hit back hard, refusing to be put anywhere near that term. That was something Bernie never learned, and he of course isn't as savvy politician as FDR was. Bernie's political views are along the lines of FDR, who also fought his day's establishment in railroad tycoons, steel barons, bankers, etc wanting to keep things as they were. If you study FDR, you would realize he faced many similar issues and obstacles but he of course came out on top. That's something modern day Democrats/others can learn from.

Bernie Sanders couldn't distance himself from socialism even if he wanted to. And he doesn't. The word turns off voters they could maybe get otherwise but Sanders saying he isn't a socialist would be like Obama saying he isn't black.

Bernie is done running - I doubt he is running for president at 83. He should just do last Senate term and retire. It was just an example anyways
I agree with you.

Socialism only has negative connotations in America due to propaganda. Ffs. Stop believing everything they tell you to.

Even if the win in 2 years and flip the senate it's a loss. They won with a candidate that's more of the same and it will hand them a loss in '24. If the GOP can get someone who follows the same goals as Trump, but isn't have as retarded and loudmouthed they'll sweep anything the next 2 presidencies. They had the chance to try something new, they would've won anyway, and put their money where their progressive mouth is, but it's more of the same old same old.

Surely they can find a decent younger candidate who is well spoken..
Someone like Crenshaw for example, military background.
Easy win in 24 when the dems prove again to be full of shit

Why not just admit it and say you want this country to be a one party system? You want everything changed to be that way anyway.
