The media are pushing for it to be Zion, but I don't think Zion will ever reach their level talent wise.

It won't be Doncic because he's white European and the main demographic for basketball are African Americans

There's really nobody in the pipeline. Usually you can see these things. When Magic/Bird were on top of the league, you could see Jordan was going to come up and take that mantle. When it was Jordan, you could see Shaq and then eventually Kobe. When it was Shaq and Kobe, you could see Lebron was next who shared it with Kobe for a while then was the sole guy. KD, Steph, Kawhi, Harden are too old for it to be any of them. If it was Giannis or AD, we would know that already. Maybe Doncic but I don't see the US embracing him like that. Zion is hurt too often and I don't know if he'll end up being THAT good . NBA could potentially be in trouble after Lebron retires / declines.

^ Agree completely. There was always an obvious 'next guy' in the wings that can carry the league for the next 10-15 years and right now, there really isn't. For how polarizing Lebron is, people tune in to see him win or lose. There's really nobody after him that has that kind of draw, and we really haven't seen enough of Zion to know if he's 'that guy' ( my gut says no for some reason).

Some media tried to imply that giannis might be the next guy after bran but i believe he isn't ripe yet. He needs to dominate first in the postseason but how can he do that? Starting by joining better teams for that to happen?

Lamelo Ball has an outside chance to fill this vacuum imo. He has the 'it' factor though I highly doubt he has the talent.

I do love Chet Holmgren's game. Sort of like a Dirk/Durant hybrid.

You can see clearly that, unless injury, Doncic is going to dominate the league and win multiple MVPs in the future. Giannis will also continue to do his thing the league. However, they are Europeans and I understand that the league needs an American superstar to draw the crowds. Anthony Davis? Kawhi Leonard? Ben Simmons?

Like one poster said. They really want zion to be the guy.

Harden kawhi steph and KD are all too old to bank on.

I feel like zion is prone to injuries. If they're frequent like what happened to d-rose then it will hurt his longevity in the long run.

yeah i'm not anyone int he league rn has that type of draw. even Doncic as good as he is, no one is dying to watch him or talk about him 24.7

espn has been obsessed with Lebron from day 1, that definitely helped him draw people in. i don't see the media obsessing over any particular player right now.

If Giannis makes the finals at least this year he will be the face of the league. If he doesn't, I'd say Luka has a shot at it. The League is already hyping him up. He made all NBA first team in his sophomore year over some other more deserving players.

What are you guys expecting from Zion at this point?

Don’t think that guys been drafted yet . Luka will have hype but his lack of elite athleticism will hold back praise . I expect a game like Bol Bol , a very tall player with guard skill but with the athleticism to keep up at that height . Seems like they’re training for it

Why is this even question?
Are people really this dumb?

Luka Doncic recieved 100K less votes than Lebron freaking James last time all-star voting was held.

James Harden, who didn't even play worse than Luka, maybe even better, recieved 2,5 million(!!) less votes.

Yeah! Who's the next global icon? It's a huge mistery. :biggums:

Luka. Even though he’s benefitting from new star boost. When his game gets truly familiar? How will he stand out?

This stuff takes time. Winning is a huge boost, hype is more important. Points gain hype. Hype gains more hype. Being an archetype gains hype. Persona, charisma.

I’m waiting on the NBA to take on a new mentality when LeBron leaves. He created this friendly era. There was respect, but it wasn’t quite like this before.

If the most popular player in the league is a cut throat asshole like Kobe or KG, guys will follow.

Tyler ****ing Herro is somehow seen as this incoming star right now. An average chucker. It’ll die fast and hard but it shows what perception can do.

Harden I remember gained some real momentum his first year on the rockets until people realized what a ref baiter he was. If he played how he does NOW, then? We’d be talking about at least Iverson level hype and fame. If not mid-00’s Kobe.

Zion has the athleticism to really stand out.

But this is gonna be an up and down thing. Like any celebrity based thing. A LeBron or Jordan is gonna be rare.

It’ll be guys fluctuating like Curry and Iverson before him.
