Looks good on paper. Lakers have off loaded big pieces of their defensive identity though.

It's pure stupidity to get rid of McGee for Gasol. Part of the Lakers success is having 2 athletic bigs to keep the Lakers long 1-5 and keep AD fresh for the playoffs. Now that Dwight is gone, we are down to one long athletic center. Lakers don't need Gasol lumbering down the court spotting up at the top of the key nearly as much as they do JM protecting the rim and having to be accounted for when he's down low right at the basket

have they?

danny/wes is a wash for 25% of the price
bradley was irrelevant in the PO and his minutes mostly went to caruso who is a better defender anyway
schroder is better than rondo
gasol is definitely better than Javale whose minutes he will take
so you only lose some in the Trezz-Dwight swap

this is a simplistic view of what happens on the court

JaVale is a terrible defender. Yeah he will get you a few blocks due to his athleticism but his fundamentals, footwork, reads, hand positioning, the angles he takes are all terrible. Gasol is the opposite - close to washed physically but fundamentally and mentally sound. He was bad in the bubble but was still one of the best anchors in the league in RS. He is also a much better post defender which is a need against Jokic. And on offense the difference will be even bigger as he will actually open up the paint with his ability to spot up instead of clogging it.

Javale's length around the basket keeps player's honest and reduces AD's workload significantly. No one fears Gasol anymore. His lateral movement is shot. Against Joker, maybe, but the rest of the league is going to feast on the inside. AD will definitely have to be more active on defense with Gasol at the C. The Lakers have Bron and AD, they don't need any more offense nor a center spotting up for 3s

McGee was useless in the postseason, pretty much unplayable. I prefer Gasol over him, would rather have Dwight over both.

honestly, the clippers are stacked while the lakers are the underdogs now bc they have lost of alot of talent. they lost both of their centers and their point guard. that's a LOT of depth. i will be shocked if LeBron pulls another win with this undermanned cast. it will be another all time carry job.

Yup they downgraded now 4-5 favorite to win next year, failed offseason. Its either Clipper or the Bucks next year, noway Lakers win. Somehow if they do, then Lebrn no doubt is GOAT.

Dwight/Mcgee>Harrel/Gasol
Rondo/Green>Schroeder/Wes

Howard and Gasol at this point is basically the same impact, although they impact the game in very different way. Should have been Dwight instead, just for the chemistry.

The Lakers are still lacking a backup Center, lets see how it works.

No lakers don’t need anymore slow centers. He hasn’t played in like 2 years and can’t stay healthy.
