View Full Version : Everyone caught up to the Warriors' brand quickly, but not the triangle

So the Warriors' reign was short, while the triangle's lasted 20 years

Anyone can shoot threes, but apparently it's much harder to learn the skills/footwork that MJ/Kobe invented to excel in the triangle..

infact, no one else ever succeeded in the triangle, before or after MJ/Kobe.. the triangle existed for 50 years before MJ/Kobe (0 rings), but then won 11 in 18 years with them..

They invented the footwork required to maximize production within the triangle, and they were the goat bailout artists the offense requires to be a great offense (the offense requires consistent bailouts throughout the game)

No one had mj/Kobe's skill, so their reigns last longer than the easily duplicated 3ball strategy of the Warriors

Triangle is inferior basketball system vs LeBron ball.

The triangle is too predictable and simple of a system which would not work in today's league

Jimmy Butler didn't shoot threes but would've won this year with the help that Lebron had

But I agree - the 3ball took over... but anyone can do it, so it's just a matter of which team has the most talent.. whereas the triangle required MJ/Kobe skill, which only they had.. so their reign last DECADES, while the warriors lasted 2 years

Tex Winter won with his triangle and was the biggest reason behind its success. It was Wilt, MJ, Shaq then Kobe. Not MJ/Kobe.

It was good enough for the weak 90s. Carry on.

but the Warriors' brand won every single time and even w/o KD they crushed the Rockets and Blazers 6-0 and then went 6 games with Klay limping as well?

Lol this is too funny . So Phil Jackson didn’t have anything to do with the triangle ? And I don’t know if you play basketball but high school teams can run the triangle now . It’s 2020 dude . Players practice watching plays on YouTube now so it’s not gonna be a coaching style unable to be replicated with how advance the games are .

But in the warriors case

The style was unique because of the players . Steph and klay changed how the high screen can be used in game because they could shoot wayyyy beyond the 3 point line and that wasn’t even thought about in the older nba . You’d get benched for even taking one shot beyond a point . Players of the 90s wouldn’t be able to guard curry past half court after one screen . Those 90s bigs were getting sliced and crossed to the ground by decent point guards in hindsight . Steph curry offensively can be iverson with a pure shot and klay could be Reggie Miller when it’s time for it .

Forced a new skill curve for the nba and you see it

Phil just was a great coach .Jordan was the best in the nba so it worked . Without Phil he’s not getting 6 rings in Chicago and he knows it . Whole reason he was mad at them by the end of his career so I’m not sure why you forget to mention him .

MJ played in a kindergarten league where some players were called up to leave their Honda mechanic jobs to face MJ in the finals

The problem with your take here is that Phil Jackson said the triangle was run best by his Scottie Pippen led team in 1994.

Tex Winter agreed with him that the Bulls best version of the triangle was without Michael Jordan.

People know how to defend the triangle as much as the warriors system that at times is an amoeba of triangle princeton and curry.

Curry played a better more unpredictable brand of basketball than Jordan that would have worked in any era

We destroy all the 3ball arguments easily now.

1-9 is like pasta. Always available and always good.

Jordan caught the ball anywhere on the floor including threes, whereas Curry is only dangerous from 3

The predictable player is lebron, who usually pounds the ball at the top of the key, so defenses can have tunnel vision.. defenses don't have to worry about lebron catching the ball in an unexpected spot

You're comparing one generation of players (curry klay dray) vs two generations (Jordan Kobe). Of course the two generations are going to last longer.

To make this fair you have to give Steve Kerr a player like Trae Young or something.

Also, I think warriors lost against two players (LeBron, Kawhi) that were better then any player the triangle faced.

It's one system that lasted 2 generations... So you made my point.. congrats and thanks

Otoh, the warriors lasted 4 years (1/3 of a generation)

Both systems required goat defenders- Shaq, Gasol, Pippen, Rodman in combination with multiple bailout artists- Fisher, Kukoc l, BJ Armstrong ect.

Conclusion: you need a beyond stacked team to succeed

The warriors reign was short due to injury. Klay, and Durant fell apart. You can't expect Curry to win with just Dray... that'd be like expecting MJ to win with just rodman.

If anything their brand is GOAT. They broke the wins record and won a ring with way less talent than most all time teams.

That's a weird thing to think about ( not saying you're wrong based on his latest play) but dude's only 30.

Name a brand that dominated 20 years and multiple generations

Waiting...

So therefore, Jordan perfected the most dominant brand and way to play ever, aka goat basketball.. aka goat

Chris Broussard:

"Did the league catch up to the Warriors?.. they were ahead of the curve.. But has the league caught up because Steph isn't the only guy shooting from 30 feet anymore"

Thread Cliffs - anyone can learn threes, so the warriors' style had a short run, whereas only MJ/Kobe could achieve max production within the triangle, so their brand last 2 decades and multiple generations (before the 3-point contest took over)

The triangle is the goat 2-point offense IF the team has MJ/Kobe, aka the goat bailout artists the offense requires throughout the game and the only players with the footwork to maximize production within the strict parameters (minimal dribble).. guys like Dirk, Bird, or Kawhi could also thrive in the offense (elite shooters and posters)
