they def can. they not only have shooters, they have elite shooters. trae+collins is a good core too.

giannis should go to the hawks, they'd be a contender lol

They'll be fun to watch but not expecting much in terms of playoff wins. Would love to see Trae have a great season regardless.

They will be “the most improved team” next Season (except for the Teams with injuries getting back healthy, Nets & Warriors).
But as far as being a “force”, I doubt that... in the East alone, they won’t be better than Heat, Celtics, Nets, Philly and Bucks.

Very well positioned going forward. Young talwnt, a future all-nba guy in young. This Collins kid and Capela as well as the italian.

That's serious firepower.

Plus Philly is a huge question mark right now. Atl can supplant them.

And the nets have to prove themselves as much as atl and philly

Nah, not this season. They will still be horrid defensively and won't be good enough offensively to make up for that fact. They could sniff an 8th seed, but that's about it. They certainly aren't going to be any kind of "force".

Too green, but they got a heap of talent.

They'll be one of those young and flashy squads everyone pulls for.

I don't think you have kept up with the moves the hawks have made.
When John Collins came back from suspension, they were playing .500 ball in the second half of the season. The defense suffered last season because they did not have a center. They were forced to play John Collins and Vince Carter at Center in many games.
Having Capella who didn't play last year will elevate John Collins defense and take pressure of the wings. They also added one of the best perimeter defenders in the league once he gets healthy in Kris Dunn. Defense will be much improved. The hawks were the worst 3 point shooting team in the league last year, that will improve as well. It will boil down to chemistry and having enough time to play together in a condensed season because they have all the pieces to complete with most teams in the East this year.

Capela can be enough for the hawks to not be the worst defense in the league and that’s enough for the 8 seed.

Wizards are one of their main competition and they’re even worse on defense. Orlando has no Isaac and a pretty mediocre roster. Charlottes a bit interesting but not good enough imo

i will be following the atlanta hawks season with caution. but i must digress, it sure would be something if 20yo Trae Young with much less help carries his team to a better record than Stephen Curry. just something to think about

Hopefully, trae will have his very first iconic playoff moment next year as well.

Im a bit confused on how we will be that bad on defense just looking at the players we have.

1st team
PG - Trae - Sure bad defender might get to below avg one day.
SG - Boggy - Avg defender not good but not bad either.
SF - Cam Reddish - Will be a elite defender and as of the last half of last year is already above avg.
PF - John Collins - Good rebounder and shot blocker and avg or so at everything. With capela helping he should improve more.
C - Capela - Elite level defender and will help the 1st team out a ton.

2nd team
PG - Rondo - Avg to above avg defender
SG - Huerter - Below avg defender but has upside but for now below avg.
SF - Hunter - avg defender now but has above avg defense abilities it was one of his strengths coming out.
PF - Gallinari - Not a great defender but against 2nd team players is serviceable here and probably better than other backups.
C - Onyeka - Best defensive player in the draft and should be extremely good at it next level and can be a defensive 4 next to Capela at C on defensive sets or big leads.

3rd team
PG - Brandon Goodwin - avg or so defense nothing great to write home about.
SG - Kris Dunn - Elite level defensive Guard can also be on 2nd team when defense is needed to close games.
SF - Tony Snell - If im not mistaken he was ok at defense over his career so far.
Pf - Bruno Fernando - Solid enough but needs alot more seasoning.
C - Nathan Knight - No clue here yet never seen him play nor know if he makes team - Bruno is backup C as well.

So overall we have a number of avg to above avg defenders with a few elite levels defenders in there as well. Sure we have some guys like Trae who never will be even avg but his offense offsets that for sure if you put other solid defenders around him. To me to close out games defensively with a lead you could easily put out this lineup.

PG - Kris Dunn
SG - Cam Reddish
SF - Deandre Hunter
PF - Big O aka Onyeka
C - Capela

That group right there can and would give offenses fits or you could even slide Dunn to SG and put rondo at PG and Reddish at SF if you needed a playmaker on the court still.

I promise you Galinari is starting.

I promise you Galinari is starting.

I know for a fact he is not because it has already been stated by our GM he is not starting. Im taking it you haven't seen the interview yet with him being asked and directly this exact question and talking about it. He even stated they told Gali before he signed his contract they were bringing him as the backup PF and the leading 6th man off the bench getting the most minutes after the starters. So gali is 100% on board with being the lead bench guy as well which to me shows just what kind of player and leader he is to try and make a team better.

Galinari is not starting. The coaching staff already told Galinari his roll would be to come off the bench behind John Collins.
Oh.. Didn't see this was covered by falconfan13 already.

I think you made some good points. Just adding some information on some of the players on the roster.

1. Onyeka will most likely be behind Bruno. He is recovering from a broken toe and recent MRI showed inflammation. He won't be ready to start the season.
2. Kris Dunn will probably miss time as well has torn cartilage in knee. Probably will miss time early in the season.
3 Snell is injured too.
