Both Boston and LA have 17 titles, so the tie breaker is determined by head to head playoffs record, in which the Celtics had a commanding 9-3 advantage. If the Lakers won again next year, they will have 18 titles and surpass the Celtics to become the new greatest franchise of all time, but we will see if this will happen.
