Part of interview:

You and Michael Jordan (https://www.theguardian.com/sport/michael-jordan) seemed to have a special bond in the film. When you were both on your game, it seemed like the team was going to win. Was that the case?

Yeah, that relationship, we established that we felt like that in the late 80s, playing against the Pistons, just starting to grow and mature and have each other’s backs. We grew up together and we defended each other. That respect we had on the court, that competitiveness we took through to the top – it was special. That was the respect we had for each other, because we had to be on the court to do what we did. We had to be dominant.

How accurate was the The Last Dance in showing what went on?

I don’t think it was that accurate in terms of really defining what was accomplished in one of the greatest eras of basketball, but also by two of the greatest players – and one could even put that aside and say the greatest team of all time. I didn’t think those things stood out in the documentary. I thought it was more about Michael trying to uplift himself and to be glorified [the series was co-produced by Jordan’s Jump 23 company]. I think it also backfired to some degree in that people got a chance to see what kind of personality Michael had.

Have you spoken to him about your opinion of series?

Yeah. I told him I wasn’t too pleased with it (https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2020/jul/28/scottie-pippen-michael-jordan-rift-denial-chicago-bulls-last-dance). He accepted it. He said, “hey, you’re right”. That was pretty much it.

Scottie ain't down with Mike's narcissism.

Didn't we have a thread like this (http://www.insidehoops.com/forum/showthread.php?480254-BREAKING-Pippen-reportedly-beyond-livid-with-Jordan-after-documentary) back in may?

Interesting.

Michael knew what he was up to. Went to the extent of throwing his best team mate and friend under the bus in a vain attempt to extend his god-like image in the minds of his already brainwashed fans.

He had to face facts when confronted by Pippen. Michael chose to admit and accept his behavior was deceitful...Now the burning question is...will 3ball accept it?

He's bought into the lebron-fan boost that he's gotten in recent years and seems to forget that he cost MJ rings in 88', 89', 90', and 95' - look it up - he played horrible and was outplayed by the opposing 2nd option in every series - the only exceptions are the 90' first and second round (completely cost bulls the ECF)... And btw, he nearly cost the bulls rings every other year

He seems to forget that MJ raised him from nothing and carried his punk ass... Pippen never had to average more than 22 or 5-6 apg. A completely garbage peak matched by Larry Hughes and every other decent player in NBA history...... Ungrateful wretch

and he said TWO of the greatest players?? It wasn't a duo like Shaq/Kobe, KD/Curry, AD/Lebron or Lebron/Wade where both guys are outscoring each other for entire playoff runs and many series.. If there was ever a gap between the top 2 guys, it was MJ/Pippen - there's never been a bigger statistical gap - MJ doubled pippen's scoring average and assisted 33% more often

Scottie Bitchin as usual ...

The doc and Mike gave him all kinds of praise in the doc. If it bothered him that they also pointed out Scottie’s massive skid marks, boo hoo.

He said, “hey, you’re right”.

Looks like the Last Dance was pretty much a 3ball level advertising piece for Jordan.

Made up, bias, and untrue.

It's all coming out from Horace Grant, Scottie Pippen, and now Michael Jordan himself.

Jordan admitted himself to Pippen on how untrue a lot of the documentary was.

Pippen challenged Jordan over the phone, said "1-9" and Jordan replied "yeah you're right".

That's the bottom line.

The way the doc was advertised it seemed like it was going to be an inside look at the '98 season, but it then turned into a Jordan documentary. The casuals loved it, but the hardcore fans who already know pretty much everything about MJ were left disappointed.

MJ made a mistake releasing the documentary when corona first shut down the country, by the time the doc was over he was getting huge press, but by the time the Lakers won a title, LeBron stole his shine. It's almost like if the documentary didn't even happen, funny how short memories people have.

Of course he does.

That was the most obvious self fellatio documentary ever that was completely detached from reality

The documentary was supposed to be 2020's NBA story.

But the real story was LeBron winning 2020 Championship and #4 year 17.

Thunder stolen again.

Yep.

MJ was getting worried about LeBron which is why he finally gave the OK to make a documentary. Then pretty much everyone starts calling out the documentary and then LeGOAT goes on to win a chip.

100%. I was waiting for it to drop and became highly disappointed after watching some and realizing we had all been misled. Didn't even finish it. I had the same observation of casuals acting like it was the best thing since sliced bread too.

Didn't MJ also have one of his older documentaries playing at cinemas around the same time the finals started? :facepalm

Pippen is right in saying that The Last Dance backfired, not only because Jordan's unpalatable personality is constantly on display, but also because he admitted that all of the charges against him are true - especially No Pip No Chip.

“You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in the GOAT debate."

Because of The Last Dance we can now prop up LeBron as GOAT using Jordan's words against him.
