The gun was so accurate that the scientist's wife, who was sitting in the same car, was not injured.

It was mounted in a pickup truck ~150m away from the target and was detonated (remotely destroyed) after the shooting. The victim was traveling in an armored vehicle.

It's not hard to find machine gun bullets in the car and his body to know it was from a machine gun. Pickup truck would be easy to tell from investigation of the exploded parts. Distance would be easy to tell. And it exploded would be quite obvious from the smoke. Those are easy details to figure out
