Pulitzer-Prize winning journalist Glenn Greenwald said Thursday that potential wrongdoing by President Joe Biden’s son, exposed by The Post, was “suppressed prior to the election” by most other media and Big Tech.
In a column he self-published online, Greenwald specifically cited a Post article that revealed emails from Hunter Biden’s laptop with plans for lucrative business deals with the since-vanished chairman of China’s largest private energy company.
Greenwald also said the emails exposed by The Post raised a “critical question” of what then-candidate Biden knew about his son’s overseas business dealings.
“All of these vital facts and questions about Hunter’s activities in China were largely suppressed from the voting population by the bulk of the U.S. media, working in tandem with Silicon Valley (which simply prevented the story from being discussed and shared on its key platforms), and the intelligence community,” Greenwald wrote on the Substack website.
Greenwald — who quit the Intercept over claims the outlet he co-founded “censored” a piece he wrote about Biden and his son’s emails — also noted that some news outlets started aggressively reporting on Hunter Biden only after his admission Wednesday that he’s under investigation for possible tax fraud.
Greenwald cited a Politico report that said the probe “has been more extensive” than Hunter indicated, as well as a CNN report that investigators have examined the gift to him of a 2.8-carat diamond by former CEFC China Energy Chairman Ye Jianming.
“All of these topics are what the large bulk of the U.S. media, working in concert with the intelligence community and Silicon Valley, suppressed prior to the election,” Greenwald wrote.
Greenwald — who helped The Guardian US win the 2014 Pulitzer Prize by working with whistleblower Edward Snowden to expose secret surveillance by the National Security Agency — noted the New York Times reported that while Joe Biden’s team had attacked The Post’s stories, it never “disputed the authenticity of the [laptop] files upon which they were based.”
Greenwald also accused “much of the U.S. media and Silicon Valley giants” of working with “professional liars of the CIA” to dismiss the emails as part of a “Russian intelligence operation” because they had the “overarching goal” of defeating President Trump.
“That’s the choice these media outlets made,” he wrote.
“They got the election outcome they wanted. But they and their reputations and legacy will have to live with this choice.”
