View Full Version : Is Giannis basically the modern-day Wilt?

No denying Giannis has dominated and been extremely productive over the last two years considering his low minutes...but he does have some glaring weaknesses that can be exploited.

go watch wilt in the post in his prime. He had a money bankshot, and soft little baby jumper. giannis doesn't have a fraction of his basketball ability.

Don't think it's a fair comparison. Wilt was more skilled and had a higher basketball IQ.
Wait, let me see. Do you think he has ever played for 48 minutes on the floor?

From the rare footage, I have gathered of Wilt he often had to deal with getting doubled and flat-out triple-teamed in the Playoffs along with getting the crap beaten out of him by the other teams from that era.
Therefore it is very hard to make a comparison between Giannis and Wilt games when Wilt basically got zero protection for his career by the Refs and also had the rules of the game change to limit his dominance.
Watch this video below and you will see that if Giannis played in that era with his playstyle he would foul out every game as Wilt was basically unable to use his strength and overpower his defender as most players do today without it being called an offensive foul on him.

Also, it should be noted that Wilt has a serious case for being the most talented basketball player that has ever played in the Nba.
He is the greatest individual player ever with his mind-boggling records and stats and not's that even including blocks and steals which would make his stats look even more insane than they already are.
I mean let's be honest, what has Wilt not done? He was the leading scorer by far on his teams, the leading rebounding on his teams, the leading playmaker, and the defensive anchor on his team.
Wilt deserves far more credit than he currently gets for his ability to adapt to any team and any role.
People should remember that Wilt easily could have refused to change his game after 1966 and instead kept being the same scoring machine he was the prior seven seasons. And if he had he easily would have been the all-time scoring leader up to this very day as Kareem would have had no hope of catching him even despite the fact that he would have played 6 more seasons then Wilt did.
And he also would have left Jordan in the dust for the highest Ppg career average as a Wilt that kept his scoring mindset after 1966 most likely averages 36 to 38 points a game for his career along with ending up with the most scoring titles ever instead of Jordan.
As it's almost guaranteed that Wilt if he had kept his scoring mindset, would have won the scoring title in 1967,1968,1969 and 1970 which means that he would have won it 11 straight years which is just crazy to think about especially when you realise that he was leading in the Nba in Rebounding efficiency and shot-blocking during all of his scoring years from 1959 to 1966.
So please don't compare the I have only one move Giannis to the greatness of Wilt Chamberlain as he is not even close to him as a player.
As Wilt had a lot more offensive moves in his arsenal with his finger roll, fade-away and many other things compared to Giannis who's only move is to commit offensive fouls by running people over and pushing off so that he can score.

David Robinson is definitely the best comparison from modern basketball. A monster regular season performer who is a perennial playoff choker.
And much like Robinson, I don't see how he can win a ring as the #1 guy.
I mean let's be honest, what has Wilt not done?
What wilt hasn't done? Having at least one child with the thousands of women he banged in his entire life.

Giannis is sadly in the same era as LeBron
Muggsy Bogues was sadly in the same era as Jordan
