durant beat everyone in his conference and reached his first finals at age 23.
lebron did the same at age 22.
they still got their butts kicked but at least they showed glimpses of domination in just their conference.

but giannis hasn't done that yet. i thought the bucks should have faced the lakers last year, but they underperformed and lost 1-4 to the miami heat in only the conference semi finals. giannis gone fishing waaaay too early so people were talking.

and it didn't help giannis much when lebron and lakers ran the clinical shit out of the heat in game 1 of the finals.

at one point, weren't the lakers up by like 35 or 40 points? EVERYBODY was saying it was oh-VAH and the fat lady was singing after that game 1.

but that was the same heat team that annihilated giannis.

2 players out of ? thousands players really?
He did not reach his peak yet. He still has some room to improve his game. And that is the scariest thing.

look, *everybody* in the NBA is amazing compared to hundreds of thousands or millions who play basketball today, but we don't make those comparisons. they are compared appropriately to guys of similar levels. giannis is compared to elites and "legends."

He is just 25 relax. Russ, Harden are all older and did not win shit still. Get on their asses first, leave the man alone.

Why put Curry and Lebron in the same conversation with MJ?

True, OP is the first person I've ever seen compare LeBron to Jordan

If we're going to have an honest assessment about Giannis' age in relation to his success, then it has to move far beyond him being the age of 25.

I believe the primary issue here is that Giannis has presented a sizable body of work (7 seasons worth), but hasn't shown much for it when it mattered the most.

He has come up short the last two seasons in horrible fashion, and that stands out. But success aside, I think there are bigger issues at play here.

Unlike the previously mentioned players like MJ, LeBron, Duncan, Wade, etc, Giannis lacks fundamentals. His basketball IQ doesn't seem to match the other guys mentioned and he lacks a go to move, jump-shot, and the decision making to be able to pull off big victories.

In fairness, he is only 25. A lot can change in the next 5 seasons, but I don't think it will come off the strength of his own growth. I think Giannis will need better help in order to make a finals appearance and potentially win a ring.

He is being treated exactly like LeBron and Jordan were. It's not like they were given a free pass at age 25 - both were criticized.

A better question might be why Giannis isn't being criticized as heavily as Jordan and LeBron were at the same age.

Yeah, and there were plenty of playoff-regressors who didn't win a ring at 25, and finished their careers without winning a ring as well.

The amount of criticism a superstar player gets will always vary. Lebron's hype, MJ's hype, Kobe's hype, Giannis's hype, KD's hype do not originate from the same place, nor should they all be expected to be about the same brand of hype or criticism. We try to retro-fit it and it doesn't work.

Truth is, the unique relationship Giannis has with the Bucks plays a part, along with his apparent unwillingness to learn how to actually shoot the ball.

Kobe - Shaq.
Duncan - Robinson.
Wade - Shaq.
Curry - Klay.
LeBron - Wade.
Jordan - Pippen.
Durant - Curry.

It was his birthday not more than a week ago but despite that, he's not the first greek to have won a chip in the league.

he needs to keep working on his skills. he already has the physicality - he doesnt have to be a great shooter or a great playmaker just has to be decent or good.

he'll get there. just not next year.
