View Full Version : How did ESPN let Kendrick Perkins on TV?

I never watch sports shows because they consistently spew low IQ/narrative information, which is useless for real basketball fans. However, I just put on First Take out of boredom and listened to Kendrick Perkins try to put together coherent sentences...and he couldn't do it.

It was like have two normal people debate (although Stephen A is really annoying), but then allowing a special ed kid to get his say as well while the normal people (Max/Stephen A) just sit back and let the special ed kid say the most retarded shit ever.

I'm honestly shocked they allow Perk to get real airtime, I had to change the channel after two minutes because it was so cringey and embarrassing listening to Perk struggle to put more than three words together. He even went to say AD is a better passer than Giannis, which is just completely ridiculous. Stephen A and Max look so uncomfortable every time Perk opens his mouth because he says retarded shit.

He's LeBron's buddy.

I think Perk offers great insight at times - he's candid, maybe his greatest asset - and he has sincere takes from the level of an average NBA player.

No he doesn't lol. He's a moron that goes on air to throw other players under the bus or say controversial shit.

I mean he compared THT to Kobe a few days ago didnt?

Actually Stephan A and Max are the ones who try to put together controversial arguments. You see, you need SOME element of fact to make controversial arguments...Perks are literally to retarded too be controversial because no one would agree with them. He's the type of guy to claim MJ only won 4 championships or something so factually wrong.

Yeah I should have used a better word but I agree completely.

I remember when Perkins claimed Jordan retired at 34 and was adamant about it, arguing with everyone on set :oldlol:

Nobody told him Mike won his final ring/FMVP at 35. Stephen A is too much of a chickenshit to callout Perk so he goes @ Max instead. Even when they agree with one another :lol

I disagree. He's offered some of the best locker room insight I've ever heard, shedding light on things like the true reason Paul Pierce and LeBron don't get along. That was a gem of a story.

When Paul Pierce was talking about taking Kobe over LeBron, Perkins jumped in, "All I know is it was a lot easier to win against Kobe Bryant than it was LeBron James. So you can talk what you wanna talk but I was right there in the thick of things with you and I know we had to really prep for LeBron James and when we got to the Lakers it was smacked up city. I'm being 1000 with you. Cause we were spending hours on how to stop this freight train coming."

And Pierce shut up. He didn't deny it. He just nodded and grinned.

That's great stuff from Perkins that we don't usually get from other talking heads who are mostly cookie cutter and generic.

I like Perkins. He's different and that's good.

Let me guess: Skip "1.4 ppg in high school" Bayless is definitely more qualified to talk about NBA than 14 season NBA veteran Kendrick Perkins?

op, like many other frail men, would prefer to see skip up there because they can identify with him more than an ex pro athlete.

should probably switch Nick Wright with Kendrick

tbh Perk is below average but he's still much better than when Shaq first started out. He'll improve.

He's an idiot. Anybody can see that. The only people that would like him are the die hard lebron stans and that's only because perk is a bron guy and i'm not even sure most of them can stand him.

2 pages on Perk..
Most of these shows try to have an NBA player on to give some sort of credibility.
I remember when ESPN brought in the Truth .... Pierce so way off.

Truth was atleast an all-star caliber player the majority of his career. I can respect players pretending they're good analysts if they were at least good players. Take Gilbert Arenas for example or even Pierce. Kendrick is a career 5ppg player; the guy probably watched week long's worth of tapes with his trainers on his opponents and never understand how to mimic atleast one part of their game successfully. Not only that, but he comes off as one of the most unintelligent television personalities. Atleast Jay Williams, as short as his NBA career was can articulate himself professionally.

Often times we see Kenny, Shaq and Charles break down defenses and offenses because they were good at it. Kendrick? Who hear Kendrick break down either of those? His 5ppg has no credibility amongst other player-analysts.

I've never even seen him in a position to break down plays. Put him on another program and it might be a different story.

Not sure why so many people hate him. He's not the sharpest tool in the shed but he's no more controversial than the other people paid to promote chit chat and arguments among basketball fans.

It's about entertainment not basketball IQ

ESPN requires people who are willing to change their story at any moment and are bald enough to do a 180.

But he's not entertaining either. Barkley is a dumbass but he's entertaining. Same could be said about shaq. Perk just sucks all around.

Skip is coherent and can talk all day about any sports topic, even if he's a troll. He and Shannon have good repartee.

How did ESPN let Stephen A Smith? Do you know he was wrong in his last predictions since 2011-2020. He is a loud mouth who yells in front of the camera, making 10 million a year.

Stephen A ranting about how terrible the Knicks are is worth it, though.
