His most successful season out of those 5 was getting swept in the 1st round

Wait he had 5 years and never made it out of 1st round without Pippen?
Meanwhile, pip had led the bulls to 55 wins and an ecsf berth in '94, as well as make the playoffs with two western teams in the rockets and trailblazers much later in his career.
Baldan the frail goat, on the other hand, had never led the wizards to the postseason in what was known to be the weakest eastern conference of all-time.

Nice footwork but his main thing was athleticism.. he wouldnt be elite athlete in modern NBA like a zach lavine. MJ had basic dunks that we see in NCAA now. Derozan is a fair comp IMO

Well, those five seasons were his first three when he was on a dog shit team full of crack heads with no recent winning culture and his last two on a terrible Wizards team where he was a fossil.
It's literally a coincedence that Pippen came into Jordan's life when both him and his team were starting to become good.

Was it also a coincidence that Pippen won 55 games without MJ in 1994 and continued to have playoff success after MJ in 1999 onwards?

Just a coincidence bro
MJ failing to make his HS team was also a mere coincidence

Yes, because unlike Jordan Pippen wasn't drafted to a shit team. After Jordan left, Pippen was left with a 3x defending world champion team with one of the best coaches and plenty of complimentary players to fill the gap. He had more success without Jordan because he was on better teams than Jordan ever had without Pippen. I mean just compare the 85-87 Bulls and 2000's Wizards to the 99 Rockets or the 00-02 Rockets.

3ball's no-beta, no-avoid, direct refutation of the thread title:
Jordan had a losing record from 85-87' for the same reason Lebron had a losing record in 04' and 19' - they were 20-win casts (they won 20-something games the prior year).. Almost no one has led a 20-win cast to a winning season the next year.. (btw, jordan missed the 86' RS)

Marc Gasol did it
Derozan did it
Lowry did it
Only guys of this caliber do it - it's a 2nd or 3rd tier thing to do

It's a 3rd tier player accomplishment to win 55 with established teams, aka Lowry, Marc Gasol, Pippen - whereas top dogs are tasked with lifting 20-win teams to low seeds, like Giannis, Durant, Lebron, or Curry in their first few years (missed playoffs)
