No one knew enough about this draft. They may not want to admit it but seeing guys perform in the tournament is important to making an informed decision on draft day. Of course Ball wasn't in the tournament anyway but if they saw some great performance they might have picked someone else.

All that said he's 19 or something and was playing in Australia last year. Way too early for the bust label.

It has happens every year. Typical 1st game overreactions. For example, I remember Michael Carter-Williams had a triple-double in his debut against defending champions Miami Heat. Everybody was hyping him up. Is he in the league nowadays? Scouting reports said that LaMelo didn't have a reliable jumpshot, therefore people should not expect him to excel in scoring right now, as long as he is doing well in other things that also count in a basketball court.
