The absolutely most fascinating thing about this latest issue is how all the mainstream news channels, newspaper's etc, completely omit Trump's issue of billions and billions and billions of dollars going to frivolous things in other countries, and just report that bad man Trump is holding up relief for the suffering Americans. He's so bad.

Completely coordinated. I mean think about it. How can Trump make a speech to Americans about his frustration of billions of dollars of the covid bill going to frivolous things in foreign countries, while Americans only get $600 each. And the main point of his issue is completely omitted, instead the reporting is that Trump is the big bad guy preventing the suffering Americans from getting this much needed help.

So why does DoctorP support it? He probably got his information from places like CNN and thus had no other option.

Sure, but whats the use of whining about it and stopping it completely?

Its only going to piss off americans off even worse.

I understand Trumps doing his nationalist thing but hes thrown everyone under the bus...

So now the theater is...

Will he make a deal in time? What if he makes no deal? His reelection dreams and legacy is again on the line

Wwe house of pain

Its a non issue altogether. He gave these billions for 4 years running, including this year

Trump rejecting this idea now is the same as you going to a restaurant, cleaning your plate, saying the meal was delicious to the waiter, walking up to pay and say "That meal tasted like ****ing shit, I dont want it"

Its way toooo late to be outraged really and when you are outraged, it will hold zero weight. Its being ignored because its not a comment with any substance. If Trump wanted to deny it, he had 1200+ days to do so. Doing it now is just weak

In saying that, the reason the foreign payments exists is what I mentioned in the other thread. You need to give this money, so China wont and so China wont have even more global dominance. Trump is too stupid to understand. The second he lets China replace US in the trade belt, US is going to be in for a world of hurt. These frivulous things are not donations, they are investments in US world standings at the expense of China. Removing them just gives China a red carpet passage to replace the US on the world stage

Something a big business man with all his money in China wants by the way. Alot of Trump fans want Chinese dominance in the end, so seeing them oppose this isnt a surprise

If you don’t want your government to give billions to foreign countries you wouldn’t have a long list of places to choose to live. It’s just a matter of how many billion. Austria gave 1.15 billion to third world development alone in a year.

How people suddenly got up in arms about foreign aid like it’s some new concept is weird to me. If you pay any attention to the big bills passed yearly they all have foreign aid. We do. Canada. England. France. All billions. Germany was second most after us one recent year I checked. Being the richest nation(depending on how you look at it) obviously we will always be giving a lot.

This is just....living in a well off country.

And it’s rarely in stand alone bills in a major way because frankly....it’s hard to make stupid people understand the benefit of helping the world stay afloat. The entire first world lifts the rest of it....and by percentage of GDP it’s really not that much money.

The specific things it goes towards get weird but that’s how special interests do. Same thing happens for bills here. Some backwoods congressman is on some committee and needs a fish study in his backwoods hometown to give his vote to a bill that’s really about water conservation or something.

Its ugly but it’s the way it’s always been. You will never pass a big bill clean but now and then someone calls attention to it and starts reading off weird additions like they didn’t tack on a little something for windmill generator studies or a new weapons system we don’t need built in their state 2 votes ago.

Its an easy tactic to outrage people who don’t follow politics that close to begin with but all of them know this is how it works and almost(almost) all of them are in on it.

And it’s mainly all done to preserve the financial power structure. Just bc it’s always been done that way doesnt mean it’s the only way. Just bc corruption happens doesnt mean one should just agree with it.

Ofc it doesnt behoove any country to remain totally isolationist. We need trade partners.

At this point, however, we have enough trade partners to keep a decent standard of living. Developing rural Afghanistan into a gender neutral society is not vital to preserve the way of life for the average American

It’s entirely done for the political/financial gain of people at the top.

The 2018 spending bill had nothing to do with minor league baseball but some congressman got language into it concerning their pay structure.

Im not saying it isn’t a problem....it’s my biggest issue when we talk about a balanced budget and where we waste money....but the people complaining all of a sudden are just being manipulated and apparently never looked into the process before.

Everything big the government passes has foreign aid and weird additions including everything passed and signed by whoever the person speaking does support.

Burning billions on weird shit is just what our government does and no president is gonna stop it. These things tend to pass with veto proof majorities because the voters all got a little pork they support.

We are in the middle of a "pandemic" that has crippled this country. With millions of people unemployed. I thought that was obvious, compared to past years. And they're giving away billions on bs shit, when the country is doing pretty bad, on something called the Covid relief bill.

But aside from that, my post, for anyone who's interested in such a thing is how Trump makes a speech about something, and the mainstream media completely report something different. And to me it's fascinating how they can straight up lie and omit the main point of something. Whether you think the point is BS or not. Lets say it is BS, the point is that the mainstream media just completely omits Trump's point and paint a specific picture that OMB. And that should be obvious whether you hate Trump or not.

It’s happened like this for along time, so we should just accept it and keep going along with it.

Slave owners said the same thing not too long ago.

Slavery can be and was ended by a vote. You cant remove the ability to add things to spending bills because the people who vote on it would have to vote to remove power from themselves. Obviously it will never happen. But say it did. Then what?

You think the government lets the money sit there? The....trillions of dollars of tax revenue? Where does it go? "Savings"? Anyone that naïve and think "Well thats what should happen!" is a real world answer?

The only real option is to bypass the federal level and send the money back to the states to spend maybe breaking it up by congressional representation so the more people you have to deal with the more money you get. But what happens then?

The state legislatures all look to shave off money for their county and neighborhoods instead of national ones doing it for their states.

Now Tyson, and Bayer, and whoever bribes state senator Johnson for pork instead of someone currently in the house of representatives.

The money is there. Someone has to be elected to dole it out.

The "Just dont spend it" options are fairy tales not worth discussion in real life.

So whats your answer? How do you remove the inherent bias towards your constituents and your own pockets that corrupts those in power?

You gonna rewrite human nature to your liking?

And what about the required federal things like national defense? Someone has to be in charge of such things and the founders we selectively praise for their wisdom decided it had to be congress in order to limit the power of the executive. They decided to give 500 people the power to set the budget and this is where it takes us.

Im not sure what to do about it now. Feel free to talk about it all day.

Im not sure a realistic fix exists unless you feel 66% of congress will come together to give away their own power. And I hope you know better than that. You couldnt get a supermajority to agree that Usain Bolt runs fast. I dont know what it would take to amend the constitution at this point but it would have to be in favor of something hard to even imagine. Something with literally no opposition. Giving the budget to the executive or to local leaders certainly isnt it.

All you can do it vote for people who want to change it....knowing they still wont. Trump can tweet all he likes. But what did he just do?

Sign it. A veto proof majority makes a president as relevant to the process as you or me. Congress when they all agree cant be stopped by anything but the courts.

Shogon

A fix does exist and the great thing about it is that it doesn’t need congressional approval or disapproval. It is already propagating and they WILL bend the knee.

Centralized psychopathic governments will become a thing of the past. All that is needed is the passage of time.

To what effect exactly? The majority of the senate just won 6 year terms. Trump is a 74 year old fat guy. If hes even alive next time they are up for re-election is a tossup. Most of congress doesnt care about being on record voting for these things. Its what they do.....yearly. Some of them for 40-50 years in a row with no problem. There are near 90 year olds in congress who have held their seats for 50 years. Don Young moved to Alaska a few months after it was made a state and has been elected 24 terms in a row. Think he gives a **** what hes on the record having voted for? Hes gonna win anyway. He spoke out against such bills and all the add ons but he got some kinda world languages bill he wanted included in the NDAA and signed off. You get some lipservice opposition...then a press release like:

Reps. Price, Young Secure $15 Million for New World Languages Program in Omnibus Appropriations Bill

Washington, December 22, 2020

WASHINGTON, DC (December 22, 2020) – Today, Congressman David Price (D-NC) and Congressman Don Young (R-AK) announced that $15 million to begin the World Language Advancement and Readiness Grants program was included in the Fiscal Year 2021 (FY21) omnibus appropriations bill. This program was originally authorized in December 2019 as part of the Fiscal Year 2020 (FY20) National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA). It was based on the World Language Advancement and Readiness Act (https://price.house.gov/newsroom/press-releases/reps-price-and-yong-introduce-bipartisan-legislation-support-improve-and) (H.R. 1094), a bill introduced by Reps. Price and Young in response to reports highlighting the shortfalls in language and cultural skills in the United States.

And then everyone falls into line. This is business as usual and Trumps opinion means virtually nothing. It will do nothing to the longterm passage of such bills. The people voting will have this so far in their rearview by the time they are up for reelection none of this will matter.

Worst case? Absolute WORST? You get a primary challenge that likely fails. And if it succeeds? Whoever replaces you wants some pork related to whatever hes into instead of the pork you wanted. Then you pull a Joe Crowley who AOC beat in the primary and go join a lobbying firm for 10 times the money and arguably...make a bigger impact that way than when you were voting.

This shit is forever. For...e...ver.

There is no true losing for these people.

They can be replaced in their office by someone who(in time) will also beg for pork on giant bills but you cant defeat them truly. Not as a concept.

Most of the people talking about it now wont even remember in 2-6 years and if they do will still vote for whoever they think gives their team the best chance at a majority. All the republicans around here call Lindsay Graham a rino....then the primary comes and he gets 68% of the vote off name recognition then comfortably wins in the general because hes in South Carolina.

Those types are nearly immortal and getting them on the record with this vote or that one means absolutely nothing.

If there is a real world fix short of violent revolution ive yet to hear it.

If you take away their ability to manipulate the monetary supply, well intentioned or ill intentioned, they won't have a choice.

You can always make the argument that the power of the government resides in the threat of force rather than the manipulation of the monetary supply, but if enough people become enlightened and recognize the truth that there is nothing they can do to confiscate your money if you are educated enough, eventually they run out of money and they run out of the ability to pay people to come to your house with guns and even attempt to confiscate, let alone actually carry it out.

It is only a matter of time.

Government will die. At least in the sense that it currently exists. Rather than them having power, they will switch to a role of actual service. It is inevitable. The psychopaths will go somewhere else.

Beautiful idea and it would be nice, the reality may be the opposite as government seems to be growing in size and influence. There's also the fact that one of the most powerful countries is an authoritarian communist entity with total control as it's m.o.
